A beautiful, thatched, country cottage in rural Dorset, only two short miles from the sea and the world heritage, Jurassic coastline. You won’t want to miss your chance for a short break or holiday in the charming, early 19th century Old Post Office Cottage. Sleeping 5 – 6 with a large garden, trampoline and games room, this is absolutely perfect for a family holiday.
There’s two hundred years of history in this building. Originally built as the quarry master’s cottage in the early 19th century using stones from the nearby Sloes Hill, this became the village post office and shop until the 1980s. Today it serves as a delightful country getaway for many happy groups of friends and families who can enjoy both the convenience of its location on Symondsbury Estate near to the café and kitchen as well as its proximity to the sea. The location of the property is less than two miles away from the stunning Dorset coast - also a world heritage site due to its Jurassic coastline - with a multitude of gorgeous, unspoilt beaches to choose from. Surrounding Old Post Office Cottage is Symondsbury Estate with plenty of fun activities and miles upon miles of spectacular landscape to enjoy.
Symondsbury Estate is set amongst the pasture and ancient woodland of rural Dorset and a is within a very short distance of beautiful, untouched beaches. Owned by the Colfox family for over a hundred years and with buildings dating back to the fifteenth century, Symondsbury Estate is near to the Jurassic coast and to so many amazing beaches that you will be spoilt for choice. A short walk will take visitors to the top of Colmer hill to enjoy the stunning panoramic view of the sea and rolling hills of the Dorset countryside. If you’re lucky you might catch a glimpse of a buzzard overhead. There are plenty of other routes and historic paths over the Symondsbury Estate and bicycles can be hired for this.
Animal lovers will have a chance to meet the animals in a viewing area where Black pigs, Pygmy goats and the ever-friendly Minty the sheep are a delight to all children as well as their parents. Symondsbury Estate’s garden produces fresh, quality, organic food for the Symondsbury Kitchen all year round and some of these delicious items such as jams, marmalades, cheeses, beers, and gins can be purchased by guests. Horse and Carriage rides are available for a leisurely tour of the area and for the more adventurous there are even survival courses teaching key survival skills delivered by experienced and knowledgeable trainers. There are one-day taster courses on offer for the bold and four-day courses for the even bolder!
Guests can take short trip to the village of Bridport which is only a few minutes’ drive from the Symondsbury Estate and visit several restaurants as well as a vintage market and a museum. There’s a Waitrose in Bridport for any last-minute home comforts, but you’re very likely to have everything you could want for your holiday on Symondsbury Estate itself.
Please enter Symondsbury Estate through the road entrance on the B3162. Follow the signs to our carpark. We must kindly ask that our visitors do not park in the village.
