One-Off Feature

On a farm in the heart of rural Somerset you’ll find this charming bow top gypsy caravan, once used in the TV series of Enid Blyton’s Famous Five.  Set in a secluded cider apple orchard and overlooking the Somerset Levels, it’s a superb choice for anyone in search of a glamping weekend or unique places to stay, with the option of hiring another gypsy caravan if you’re in a larger group.

General Info

The Famous Five Gypsy Caravan is one of two caravans tucked away (and entirely separate from one another, unless you choose to book both together) at the end of a no through lane not far from the Somerset towns of Glastonbury and Street.  The county of Somerset is steeped in history - it is the cradle of Christianity in Britain, the stronghold of Alfred the Great and the scene of bloody civil war battles.  Nowadays it is famous for its cider making and cider farms; in fact the gypsy caravan is set right in an apple cider orchard.  Glamping in England - enjoy the tranquility of the setting, or go exploring further afield - this is a unique place to stay, perfect for couples in search of a romantic break or small families.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

There’s masses to see and do in this part of Somerset, especially for lovers of the great outdoors!  The nearby countryside is home to the Mendip Hills, the Quantock Hills and the Blackdown Hills, all excellent for walking and cycling.  The nearby town of Street is home to a 30 metre outdoors swimming pool which is heated all year round.  The town of Glastonbury, with its world famous Tor is also nearby.  Visit the Abbey or the Chalice Well, or enjoy the range of cafes and shops and the hippie vibe of the town.  Wells, England’s smallest city, is a short drive away and is well worth a visit for its fantastic cathedral.  West Somerset heritage railway, Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, and Longleat Safari Park are amongst other nearby attractions which are excellent days out.

Getting There & Local Amenities

Getting There:
Despite the secluded location the site is only 10 minutes from the A303 and about 20 minutes from the M5, a little over 2 hours from London.

The caravan has heating if required. There is a separate heated vintage caravan nearby in the same orchard, which has a gas cooker, oven, fridge, and additional sleeping space if required.  Bed linen is provided, along with all the necessary utensils, cutlery and crockery.  There is a private toilet, and a separate private bathroom with shower, basin and running hot water housed in a traditional shepherd’s hut.

Exterior Details
Outside in the clearing there’s an open fire for cooking on.

Conditions of Rental
Deposit of 50% payable on booking.  Balance payable four weeks before arrival date.  Minimum stay 2 nights.  Children are welcome - one younger one can sleep in the wagon with you, in the traditional manner, tucked up under the main bed!  Older children can sleep in the vintage caravan or bring a tent.  Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement.  Prices are based on two people - the adjacent vintage caravan can sleep more, or a second gypsy wagon is available and can be pulled into the same orchard for larger groups.
