General Info
Once the village smithy in its time, now sensitively converted, decorated throughout with paintings and ornaments, the Old Smithy takes you back to a time when life was lived at a slower pace. The house has traditional thick stone walls, oak beams and flagstone floors, but is comfortable and homely, the perfect base for a holiday in the Brecon Beacons. This hidden gem is situated in an acre of country garden, with multiple seating and relaxing areas and ample lawn space for children to run around and explore, this is a magical garden skirted by the River Honddu. The foodie town of Abergavenny, known as The Gateway to Wales, is 20 minutes by car with its castle, shops and many restaurants from dog friendly eateries to Michelin Guide restaurants. The historic town of Hay on Wye, a famous literary haven, is 30 minutes away with numerous indendent second hand book shops and gift stores. Or venture further afield to Crickhowell, Brecon or Hereford, all within the hour. Nearby attractions include Llanthony valley which has lots to offer. Cistercian Abbey which is just across the country lane. The crooked church at Cymyoy is well worth a look, as is the ancient Partrishow. The Llanthony Valley offers pony trekking in the National Park, Grange Trekking in Capel y Ffin offer treks for all abilities from March October. The ground floor entrance leads into an open plan kitchen diner with original flagstone floor. Here budding chefs will be able to whip up delicious hearty meals. Featuring an electric oven and hob, microwave and coffee machine. The traditional Welsh dresser is adorned with plenty of plenty of crockery to ensure you lay a table to impress the most discerning guest. The wooden dining table, which will comfortably seat 6 guests, looks out into the garden where you can watch the birds feeding from the trees. The large lounge with open fire and under floor heating is the perfect place to relax with a favourite book or enjoy one of the traditional board games supplied. The accomplished pianists among you may like to provide the music on the antique Boudoir piano. The absence of a television and wi fi ensures you can fully unwind and switch off from modern day pressures. Upstairs you will find three bedrooms, 1 master double bedroom with basin, 1 twin and 1 twin with 2ft 6 beds, to suit children. There is a family bathroom with bath and WC. There is also an external shower room with sink and WC located in a separate out building accessed via the dining room door and is a short stroll through the garden. Outside is an acre of garden with outdoor furniture and BBQ. The owners live in the attached Forge, which in no way encroaches on the privacy of the cottage or it s gardens.
