A charmingly restored annex of a ‘maison de maitre’ dating back to 1830, set in a beautiful rural setting in the Loire Valley national park. It’s a gloriously romantic retreat, just a short walk or bike ride from two pretty Loire villages. It’s a perfect spot for writers, artists and lovers of nature.
The annexe is in a great setting for unwinding and relaxing, but is also just a 15 minute drive to the historic town of Saumur, and approximately 40 minutes drive from Tours and Angers. You can walk to two villages from the Bird House, or borrow the house bikes and cycle there. It’s a wonderful, peaceful retreat.
This is a great setting for exploring the local area and the surrounding Loire Valley. The ‘plus beaux’ villages of Candes St Martin and Montsoreau are just over the river Loire and the UNESCO abbey of Fontevraux is a short drive away. Also in this area are many fantastic chateaux, several within a half an hour drive include Langeais, Azay-le-Rideau and Rigny-Ussé. Also in the surrounding area you will find hundreds of wine ‘caves’ where you can go wine tasting. It’s a great region for walking, cycling and canoeing on the Loire river, and it’s even possible to do a day trip to Paris from the house (the owners will happily drop and collect you from the local train station).

Interior Details
The Bird House has been recently renovated and is now a characterful and artistic guest annexe. The renovations have been completed by the family and local artisans, using reclaimed and recycled materials wherever possible. It is a cosy and romantic retreat for two people. Downstairs there’s a well equipped kitchen, a dining area, a bathroom with walk in shower and a comfortable living space. Upstairs there’s a bedroom with a double queen size bed, as well as a mezzanine day room with a day bed. There’s a washing machine in the main house available for guest use if required. Wifi throughout.
Exterior Details
The Bird House is set in gloriously natural gardens with a stream, ponds, mature trees, hundreds of roses, and so many different types of bird species. This is nature based gardening at its finest. There’s a BBQ, and garden furniture in different areas around the garden where you can enjoy the peace and quiet. Bikes are available for guest use.
Conditions of Rental
The price is set to be the same all year round and includes utilities. Minimum stay three nights. Dogs may be allowed - please enquire for more information. Please note that the stairs are simple and rustic, they may not be suitable for people with any mobility issues so please enquire for more info. All linen provided, and there’ll be a welcome basket of goodies awaiting your arrival. Breakfast / tea and cakes / evening meals are available if requested in advance for an additional charge.
