Ile de Re

The Ile de Ré is one of the jewels of the Atlantic coast and an excellent holiday rentals location. Although in the region of Charente-Maritime, the Ile de Ré is an island off the west coast of France, connected to the mainland by a 2.9km bridge which takes you into the town of La Rochelle.

The island is completely flat and just 30km long by 5km wide. Perfect for a holiday in Ile de Re where you want to be able to explore, but don’t necessarily fancy spending all your days on long road trips. The island is popular with tourists, a lot of whom are daytrippers from the mainland. However, since the local population is well distributed around the island, you never feel too crowded here. The island is covered in bicycle tracks, and being so flat is perfect for cyclists of all levels – you can explore all ten Ile de Re villages by bike, on over 60 miles of cycle paths. For those in search of sand and sea, you will not be disappointed – many of the holiday rentals on offer are an easy walk to the sea. The island is surrounded by gently sloping sandy beaches which are a haven for watersports enthusiasts. Try your hand at windsurfing, kite-surfing and boating, amongst others. Despite its size, the countryside here is varied and utterly charming and well worth exploring by bike or on foot, direct from the front door of your holiday in Ile de Re if you so wish! In the evenings the main port of Saint Martin really comes to life with welcoming shops, buskers to watch and enticing smells wafting from the quayside restaurants.
