General Info |
|
| |
Lou Capitani is located in one of the most secluded and rural parts of Provence. The wine produced in the area is highly prized which helps to preserve the natural but cared-for counrtyside and avoid the large-scale development of villas and secondary residences. The Bandol, Appelation d'Origine Controlée (AOC) produced in the vast valley below and around Lou Capitani, red, rosé and white is quite unique. Much of this is due to the efforts of producers to establish the Mourvèdre cépage (vine) which gives these wines their singular rich flavour, bouquet and a very long life. The producers: Domaines Ott, Tempier, Galantin, Castillon, Chateau Ste Anne, Pey Neuf, etc. all welcome dégustations. The area provides wonderful opportunities for hill, coastal and cross-country walks, as well as beaches and creeks: the famous Calanques between Cassis and Marseille, and the remarkable Ste Baume range where St Mary Magdalen is supposed to have died. |

Exterior Details |
Unlike many villas in Provence, this is a much loved family house since the mid '60s, it was recently renovated, with a 10x5 m. pool and a mediterranean dry garden of scented plants. In the summer (until the end of October, or even later, when the pool is covered) life at Lou Capitani is focused on the patio, just outside the kitchen and living-dining room, which has a large teak table, a parasol and chairs for at least 10. In addition to a modern portable barbeque, there is also wood-fired pizza oven in the patio. Provence has a high wild-fire risk in the summer, especially when there is wind. Utmost care should be taken when cooking outside!
Indeed, winds like the Mistral or Tramontane can blow up suddenly. Windows and shutters must be safely secured at all times and parasols must be closed at night or when leaving the house.

What visitors have said about Lou Capitani |

We are back home and full of sweet memories of Lou Capitani. We were very sorry that we had to leave after just one week. What a great place and a lovely house! We hope we may come back many times in the future. We are really in love with the house, the grounds and the views. For Saskia it was the best place since years as there is always a little wind blowing. She wants to live there.... So thanks that we could stay in Lou Capitani and we hope to come back soon, if we may!

Thank you for a fabulous holiday! Louis, we so enjoyed our holiday... we thought the 'Mas' was beautiful...so full of character and homely with a very peaceful feel about it. We enjoyed meals on the terrace, boules on the driveway, and also badminton (we brought our own rackets). Our favourite beach was Port D'Alon. I am trying to keep the memory of the smell of pine, and rosemary mixed with the heat. The farmer next door kindly introduced himself and Alexandra was very helpful. It was all we hoped it would be and more, so a big thank you and have a good summer.

Having staggered back to a cold rainy London I feel compelled to write to thank you for letting us use Lou Capitani for 2 weeks. The setting is idyllic and the weather was perfect. It is a very relaxing place to unwind.
Thank you again, Iain, London

I just wanted to write you a short note to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Lou Capitani. What a great place! The whole family had a wonderful time and Alex was very helpful both with finding a babysitter and rescuing us when we locked ourselves out!

I just wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful stay in Lou Capitani. The house is very comfortable and cozy with its very personal decoration. We felt at home right away. We really appreciated that the kitchen was so well equipped since we all like to cook. The surroundings are obviously stunning and we enjoyed the garden with its flowers and herbs. We did our best to keep the geraniums alive. The location of the house with its closeness to the sea is really outstanding. We went on many nice excursions to old towns, wineries and small villages along the coast.
Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful house.
Special thanks to Alexandra, who with such short notice managed to have a new TV installed (many among us are great soccer fans) and to your nice neighbors who stopped by to greet us and make sure we were ok.
