Sea View Signal House on Beer Head Cliffs
Once a Custom & Excise House, The Signal House stands proudly on top of Beer Head cliffs in East Devon, with panoramic views of the coast to the south, and green farmland to the north. This clifftop retreat is walking distance to a beach, and to the nearby fishing villages of Beer and Branscombe. A fabulous luxury coastal retreat. This property is part of our holidays in Devon collection of unique and unusual places to stay.
The neighbouring Lookout Tower can also sleep up to four in two bedrooms, so for those looking for larger group accommodation, book both properties. Records suggest that the original building on this site might have been built as far back as 1600. It was originally used for livestock, and then at some stage converted into a coastguard & signal house. During the building’s renovation, many musket balls were found under the floorboards, along with a variety of other Victorian items including a couple of coastguard buttons.
The Signal House sits right on the south west coast path so this unique holiday house is heaven for walkers. It’s a 10 minute walk (through an SSSI - Site of Specific Scientific Interest) to the secluded Hooken beach, and the beaches of Beer and Branscombe are also just a short walk. There are a couple of pubs and a cafe in the village of Branscombe which are well worth a visit, and the village of Beer has restaurants, shops and pubs. There are National Trust properties to visit, the larger towns of Sidmouth and Seaton, and areas of outstanding natural beauty for you to enjoy.
