For a day of history and sightseeing, Durham Castle (12 miles) is a must – this impressive fortress sits at the heart of the city's World Heritage Site. After soaking up the history, enjoy an easy riverside stroll and have a browse of Durham’s excellent shops and cafés.


This quirky cottage has an upside-down layout. Step inside and kick off your shoes in the entrance hall before heading up the gorgeous wooden staircase to the open-plan living space. Here, the lounge, kitchen, and dining area all sit beneath a striking apex roof, creating a light and spacious setting for spending leisurely evenings together. Cook up a storm in the fully equipped kitchen, which has elegant rounded corners and a handy breakfast bar for casual bites. After busy days exploring, curl up on the reclining armchairs or sofa and settle in for a film night.
