One-Off Feature

Nestled into the side of a hill on a private estate in the Yorkshire Dales, with sweeping views of the countryside and a short stroll from the Bivouac shop and cafe is a collection of seven Meadow Yurts.  With eclectic interiors, cosy wood burning stoves and private verandas overlooking stunning countryside, this is glamping at its very best.

General Info

Made out of moss green canvas so that they blend seamlessly into their woodland environment, the Yurts each sit on their own individual platform which not only keeps them dry but also provides each with its own veranda. The windows, solid wood lockable doors, and proper beds and living furniture, all make you feel like you're in your own little house in the woods, and yet the natural environment is right on your doorstep. On warm days, sit on the veranda and enjoy the views over the valley, and when it's cold, top up the wood burner and snuggle up inside with a glass of wine. These Yurts, intimate and secluded, are the perfect base from which to explore the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The Bivouac site is located 3 miles from Masham on the 20,000 acre Swinton Estate, deep within the Yorkshire Dales. The Swinton Estate is home to a 32 bedroom 4 Star hotel, Country Club & Spa, Cookery School, as well as country activities such as a trekking centre, Birds of Prey aviary, golf course and shooting school. Masham itself is a beautiful market town which is definitely worth a day trip – home to two famous Yorkshire breweries (which offer guided tours and a variety of memorabilia), it also plays host to several pubs, an array of tea rooms and sweet shops and a bustling market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Further afield, the North Yorkshire countryside is just waiting to be explored. The estate is situated in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and How Stean Gorge, Brimham Rocks and even Colsterdale within the estate itself are all dales worth exploring on foot or by rope. Go bird watching on hilltops, visit Hackfall, a spectacular woodland paradise on the banks of the River Ure, or visit nearby Middleham Castle, Fountains Abbey or Newby Hall. Wherever you go, you are never far from a village pub and a pint of local ale.

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
Each Yurt can accommodate up to 4 adults in one double bed and two single beds. The comfortable living area fills much of the space, providing a calm environment in which to unwind after an active day out, and one side of the Yurt is taken up by a wood-burning stove to keep the Yurt warm. As with everything at Bivouac, the interiors are an unusual mix of hand made and pre-loved artefacts, which all come together to create a very distinct character. There's a separate wooden-clad hut next to the yurt with a toilet.

Exterior Details
The community of Yurts reside in a small meadow, and on warm summer days you can sit out on your private veranda and enjoy sensational views of the surrounding valley. The Wooden Veranda has sheltered outdoor seating with fire pit and play area for boules and swing ball. A short stroll away are hot showers and toilets, not to mention the Bivouac Café, where residents can warm up and savour delicious local produce - either inside in the winter or in the warmer months out on the patio from where you can look right down the valley. Yurt residents can make use of the communal camping kitchen with power, gas hobs, communal seating and BBQ facilities. If you want to really indulge yourself, take a dip in our al fresco communal hot tub, which is also available for private hire. The local landmark of Druid's Temple, an intriguing 18th century folly, is located in the adjacent woodland, and all around you the breath-taking Yorkshire countryside stretches for miles and miles.

Further Details
Bed linen is provided, as is a basket of wood to fuel your fire. There is also a fire pit on your veranda for the chilly evenings. Don`t forget to bring your torches as there's no electricity, wifi and electric sockets are available in the residents' lounge. In addition to the Yurts, the Bivouac site is also home to six hand-crafted timber frame Shacks, which each sleep 7. Rustic and luxurious in equal measure, these have their own bathrooms and are a cosy and comfortable alternative to a Yurt. For larger groups wishing to stay together, we also have the Loft & Snug, a bunk barn which sleeps 10 - the perfect place to rest your head after a day exploring the Yorkshire Dales. We are also open for unique woodland wedding and celebrations, with a tipi available for hire, so if you want to throw a truly magical, memorable party, get in touch.

Conditions of Rental
