Set just 20 metres from the line at a working steam railway station, this MK1 train carriage has been beautifully converted and renovated and now provides an authentic yet contemporary British holiday experience.
Originally built for British Rail in 1962, the carriage has been sensitively restored into a charming blend of traditional features and modern day comforts. The interiors are cosy and surprisingly spacious, the elevated glass balcony offers wonderful views of the railway line and the surrounding countryside, and nearby there are beaches, seaside towns, historic houses and family attractions aplenty, not to mention a good selection of local pubs and restaurants. This is a truly quirky and memorable holiday rental.
Within 12 miles of the carriage you will find sandy beaches, bustling piers and historic harbours, and the seaside towns of Hastings, Rye and Tenterden are all worth a visit. Battle Abbey, Sissinghurst Castle, Bodiam Castle and Great Dixter House and Gardens are all within easy reach, and attractions like Hastings Aquarium, Bewl Water, Drusillas Park and Bodiam Boating Station are perfect for family outings and active pursuits. There are two local convenience stores just half a mile away and a larger superstore within a 10 minute drive, or you could sample The White Hart in Newenden or the Indian restaurant 100 yards from your door.

Interior Details
The carriage has two double bedrooms (one en-suite Master) and one bunk room - as well as a family bathroom. There is a fully functional kitchen with an electric hob, an oven, a microwave and a fridge, and there is also an open plan lounge and dining area with a TV and DVD player. Bedding, towels, kitchen necessities, gas central heating and a welcome hamper are included, and extras like cots and highchairs can be provided.
Exterior Details
Outside the carriage there is an elevated glass-fronted balcony from where you can enjoy excellent views of the station, the railway line and river valley. Here there is seating for 6 people so you can dine al fresco.

On site there are three further retreats - a GWR 'TOAD' Brake van which sleeps 2, a 1930's ICI Salt Van and a 1940's Royal Ordinance Factories ammunition transportation wagon (both of which sleep 4).
