Romantic and intimate, the spacious B&B guest wing can accommodate up to four guests in two rooms in private seclusion. The atmospheric and characterful interior reflects its historic past; throughout the property preserved features of its milling heritage sit alongside contemporary standards of 21st sumptuous comfort.
Set within 5-acres of grounds at the edge of a village by a ‘Pooh-sticks’ bridge on a country lane, guests can immerse themselves in a tranquil riverside nature haven whilst in the close proximity of the town’s amenities and easy reach of the main road networks for exploring Somerset’s wider attractions.
The Old Mill is positioned in a country-feel setting; the periphery of the five-acre grounds is river-flanked on two sides and lined with mature trees and tall hedging to the third perimeter, perfect for leisurely strolls. There’s an abundance of visiting creatures at any one time, from trout, ducks, egrets, herons, kestrels, buzzards, and if you’re really lucky, you may see the shy otter or a darting glimpse of the elusive kingfisher. The Old Mill is located on a country lane next to a Pooh-sticks bridge at the edge of a small village. There’s a regular bus service into Taunton, a Norman church and a village shop. Directly opposite The Old Mill you will find a well-maintained fascinating 24-acre nature woodland to explore with further longer countryside walks beyond.

The authentically rustic Old Mill has retained much of the original traditional features of its quirky agricultural origins. As if time has stood still, evidence of its history - exposed timber beamed ceilings, leaded windows, wonky stone and brick walls, pared-back floors, stable doors and intriguing iron wheels and cogs and mill stones, exist side-by-side with modern furnishings. The adjoining yet separate two-storey guest wing comprises of a private entrance, a large lounge, an upper-floor dining area, wrap-around sun terraces, a river banked garden and access to the grounds beyond.
The Mill Room is positioned within the mill overlooking the river from its double aspect windows and stable door with Juliet balcony. The ceiling is beamed, the bed is super-king and the up-to-date en-suite features a double walk-in rain shower.
The Cottage Room is reached through the mill across a small corridor to the front-facing Victorian Cottage. It too is double aspect; one smaller window overlooks the river and a 300-year-old horse chestnut tree, and the other window overlooks a 24-acre nature woodland positioned directly opposite The Old Mill. The bed is a king and the private bathroom is situated next-door directly two short steps away.
The Old Mill as an entire property comprises of three respective houses, each with its own characterful façade and history. The original mill, hidden behind the family’s front-facing Victorian cottage, houses the secluded B&B guest wing on the river banks. Occupying extensive grounds directly opposite a woodland park, The Old Mill encourages guests to immerse themselves in an idyllic serene rural haven surrounded by abundant nature; guests can awake to the sound of birdsong and the river gently cascading over the abandoned weir beneath their window.
The Old Mill’s hosting style is based on the simple but sometimes overlooked premise that stays away should be experienced as an indulgent treat, a relaxing mini holiday. Guests can expect generous hospitality, thoughtful homely extras as standard and a flexible accommodating service.
