One-Off Feature

The Old House is a wing of Llwyn Madoc Manor House, a beautiful Welsh manor house set on a 2000 acre estate with its own walled gardens, water meadows, tennis court and stocked lake for fishing.  Rural Wales at its finest, this is truly an idyllic place to stay for lovers of the countryside and the great outdoors.

General Info

The manor house has been lived in by the same family for over 400 years. The original farmhouse dates from the late 1600's and the main house from 1747.  The views from The Old House are glorious - looking down over the walled gardens, the water meadows and the beautiful stocked lake with the forest beyond. The wild River Irfon flows through the valley - with several pools for Wild Swimming and of course miles of uninterrupted walking from the door.  The small hamlet of Beulah is only a mile from this very remote wing of the Manor House -  there is a pub serving local food and a garage, post office and village store.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

Here in the Cambrian Hills you are in true Welsh wilderness - you could walk all day from the many surrounding footpaths and often not see a soul.  There are lots of cycle trails around so bring your bikes (or hire some) if you are keen mountain bikers.  There are brilliant off-road bike trails in Irfon Valley The house is within easy reach of the Elan Valley with its many lakes which is well worth visiting.  Nearby Llanwrtyd Wells, the "smallest town in the UK"  has numerous Green Events. This is the home of The Bog Snorkelling Championships (i-dents on the TV) and The Man versus Horse Race.  The house is 10 miles from Builth Wells and 20 miles from Brecon, the gateway to the Brecon Beacons.  Scenic drives in every direction, following Drovers Roads and the Monks Route.  There are several perfect places for wild swimming in the vicinity too.
