General Info
The Hayloft and The Tower House are part of the Headon Hall Estate, located in the stunning area of Alum Bay on the Isle of Wight. They boast a prominent position beneath the heather-clad Headon Warren and overlook the cliffs and the coastline to The Needles and National Trust land. These two properties are the perfect quiet retreat and would particularly suit cyclists and walkers as there is gated access onto the coastal footpath and the footpath to the beach. The owner lives adjacent and is on hand should you need advice or assistance during your stay.
The Hayloft (UKC1612) is a quaint and comfortable detached property combining character, charm and stylish furnishings. It has a large open plan living area and kitchen area, a spacious double bedroom and an en-suite shower room.
The Tower House (UKC1613) boasts 4 bedrooms, a spacious living room and a well-equipped fitted kitchen. Built in 1868, this charming cottage has a landscaped cottage garden with seating areas overlooking the Needles and National Trust land, and also has a fish pond. It is a real ‘home from home’, since for the best part of the year, it is the owner’s home and is very well equipped with many extra comforts - there is even a breadmaker for your enjoyment.
Headon Hall Estate has nearly 4 acres of land, and there is a 2-acre field (sloping) with picnic table available to guests for games, it also benefits from private parking on site. It has views over The Needles to Tennyson Monument and the purple heather-clad Headon Warren, and has a gate to the coastal path and direct access to the hillfort and Headon Warren 2 minutes away. Alum Bay with its famous multi-coloured sands is under 10 minutes’ walk, as are The Needles Landmark Attraction and Alum Bay Glass. Freshwater Bay, 2 miles, is one of the most picturesque coves in West Wight and lies just to the south of the village of Freshwater.
Smugglers once used the caves around the bottom of the chalk cliffs that are exposed at low tide. If you wish to explore them it is best to find a local guide as you can become cut off by the tide. Kayaking is the ideal way to see them and the other small bays at Watcombe and Scratchells. Freshwater beach is popular for organised water sports. You will often see boats moored offshore as the passengers come ashore here.
Compton Bay Beach, the most unspoiled island beach, has a vast expanse of sands and is a hot spot for surfers, whilst also being great for families. It is under 10 minutes’ drive away, as is the yachting village of Yarmouth with its renowned fresh fish restaurant and numerous pubs and other restaurants. The Yar River runs from Freshwater Bay to Yarmouth, and has a scenic walk and cycle route along the causeway. Explore, relax and enjoy! Beach adjacent. Shop and restaurant 1 mile, pub ½ mile.
