Rustic charm and laidback luxury abound at this 5 star boutique retreat on the south coast of Galle, where you can relax and enjoy opulent accommodation, exceptional service and breath-taking surroundings. You will never forget a stay at Templeberg Villa.
If you’re looking to escape the city and enjoy style and service set against a backdrop of emerald green jungles and beautiful beaches then look no further. Templeberg combines the privacy and exclusivity of a private villa with the staff, chef and all-round indulgence of a small hotel, and the result is something truly unique and memorable. On site you can enjoy canopied four-poster beds, Durtch colonial architecture and a cooling plunge pool and around the house stretches a 5 acre working coconut plantation as well as mangroves, pristine beaches and a charming traditional village. This is Sri Lanka at its very best.
The villa is just a short tuk tuk ride from Galle where there is plenty to see and do, not least the famous Fort. In fact, there are no fewer than eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites in this part of the world. Near the house you can visit golden beaches, watch a stunning array of wildlife and sample mouth-watering local cuisine, or the team on site can arrange safaris, pampering experiences at a spa or adrenalin-fuelled white water rafting excursions. There are two tuk tuk drivers who are ready to take you anywhere you want to go.
Travel along the Sri Lankan Southern Expressway towards Galle or alternatively the coastal road between Colombo and Galle. Clear the Galle toll point (400SLR). Come to the first set of traffic lights in Galle (intersection of Akuressa Road). Turn left at the traffic lights into Akuressa Road if coming to Galle from the direction of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Drive over the little bridge in Galle pictured above and past a red hospital medical sign Galle Sri Lanka. Continue round a bend for 300 metres until you see a concrete wall with a large sign Homelands. This marks the intersection of Akuressa Road and Babaragoda Road. Turn into Barbaragoda Road. Drive towards the jungle on the hill top about 150 metres until you see a large wrought iron gate with a clearly painted white sign Templeberg.

There are five bedrooms complete with mosquito nets and toiletries, a fully equipped Western kitchen, formal sitting and eating areas and laundry facilities at your disposal. There is also a water tower viewing platform with a built-in cold water Jacuzzi. From your window you can spot a whole range of wildlife from purple-faced monkeys to birds and lizards.
One of the best things about Templeberg is its dedicated staff, from the knowledgeable house manager to the wonderful cook, trusted housemaid and houseboy, smiling plantation manager, talented gardener and dutiful night-watchman.
