Simple, charming and bursting with old-style Greek character, Swallows’ Nest is a tiny little village house walking distance to the beach on the Ionian island of Kefalonia where you can enjoy seclusion, sea views and a much-needed dose of romance and escapism.
If you’re looking for an authentic, stylish and unique bolthole just for two then Swallows’ Nest (or Helidonofolia as it is affectionately called by the locals) is just what you need. The inside is lovingly furnished with vintage pieces, colourful textiles and handmade ceramics, outside there are two small terraces where you can sip a cold drink and watch the world go by and the setting is perfect, with olive trees all around, sea views to the front and mountains at the back. Just like the birds after which it is named, you will want to come back again and again.
Behind the house is Mount Aenos, the highest peak of Kefalonia, and to the front you can watch the sun setting over Lourdas Bay. The central square of Lourdas village, where you will find a shop and several tavernas, is just a short stroll away, and the nearest beach is about a 20 minute walk down the hill.
Getting There:
Kefalonia has its own airport Keffalinia (EFL) with direct charter flights during the season (March to November) from many UK and European airports. There are also ferry services to and from the mainland and to Italy via Patras on the mainland, from the Kefalonian ports of Poros, Sami and Fiscardo.
