Beautifully restored stone farmhouse set in the countryside but only 15 minutes drive to the historic towns of Braga and Guimarães. There are two accommodation units (which are rented together) - the ground floor of the farmhouse for four people, and the poolside studio for four people. The farm makes its own wine and there are hundreds of fruit trees. Spectacular views all around. A peaceful haven. The accommodation consists of the entire ground floor of the farmhouse. Rustic exterior but all comforts. Dine al fresco in the wisteria covered patio.
The apartment, the whole ground floor of a large farmhouse, is beautifully furnished with all mod cons. It can sleep up to four people in two bedrooms. It is light and airy and the stone walls keep it cool in the summer. The poolside studio is just 20 steps from the farmhouse and has two bedrooms (sleeps up to four). It's the perfect location for a multi generational holiday, so the grandparents for example can have slightly separate accommodatoin. The Quinta is set in the countryside, amidst mountains and valleys. However, it is only 5 minutes from the nearest village of Santa Cristina de Longos for fresh bread and 10 minutes from the historic town of Braga. it is also close to the beaches at Esposende and a 1 hour drive to Porto to get to explore the capital of the north of Portugal. Great walks all around the house. Lots to see and do in the area. Breathtaking scenery all around. This is a great spot for children as the farm is walled in and has electronic gates, so is ultra safe. Most people just enjoy sitting back and listening to the church bells, a glass of vinho verde or a good Douro tinto near at hand, while pretendiing to read a good book!
Three minutes drive from the house is the village of Santa Cristina de Longos which has a good bakery, grocery shop and 4 cafes. Caldas das Taipas is 5 minutes away with a colourful Monday market and lots of cafes, restaurants, a thermal spa and 2 good supermarkets. There are also two outdoor public swimming pools and a children's park nearby. The house is set in the country but is within 20 minutes of the beautiful historic towns of Braga and Guimarães. The nearest beach, Esposende, is only 35 minutes away and Geres national park is also close at hand. The area is perfect for woodland and mountain walks and there are lots of walks you can do from the door. There are celtic settlements 10 mins away, and 5 churches within a 5 minute drive.
The nearest airport is Porto which is a 1 hour drive from the farmhouse. There are lots of car hire companies at Porto airport.

Both bedrooms in the farmhouse are large and have views over the mountains. The Green room has French windows opening onto the front of the house. All rooms are fully furnished with pine or cherry furniture and are large, bright and airy. Both bathrooms are large and well decorated. The kitchen is well equipped with fridge-freezer, electric cooker, Krups Nespresso coffee machine and coffee capsules,an Aeroccino milk frothing machine, a dressser full of everything you may need, a microwave. The sitting room was the original stone wine house and has a wood burner, and double wooden doors which open onto the wisteria covered patio. There is broadband internet and wi-fi. The poolside studio has two bedrooms and can sleep an additional four people. The farmhouse and pool studio are rented together and can accommodate up to 8 people. The studio has modern interiors and an open plan living space.
From the sitting room you go out to a wisteria covered pergola with a table and chairs where guests can enjoy eating out al fresco, to the sound of the church bells. A few steps away from the table is a barbecue area. The garden is extensive, walled in and guests are very welcome to wander round the farm, see where the wine is made and even take part in the wine harvest at the end of September. There is a good sized swimming pool for guest use. The pool house by the pool also has a shaded verandah where you can read a book or watch outdoor TV! (English channels). Behind the house there are many woodland walks. The best thing about being here is the view and the comfort of the house ( everything and more provided ) - then comes the good location. It's a great place to feel a part of the rustic northern Portugal, with its large granite houses and small terraced fields. There are fruit trees all around - guests are welcome to help themselves to whatever is in season - oranges, kiwis, lemons, plums, raspberries and blueberries. The owner of the farm walks her dogs every day and is more than happy for you to join her to explore a variety of walking routes through the forest behind the house.
The area is very scenic and the house, situated in the mountains, has breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside. The traditional farmhouses of the area are built in granite. The north of Portugal is renowned for its gastronomy and vinho verde wine. Wine is made on the farm and guests are welcome to help themselves to any fruit in season. Taipas is only 5 minutes away and it is a pretty town with an outdoor swimming pool complex, tens of cafes and restaurants, banks, chemists, supermarkets etc. Longos, where the house is situated, is a typioal Portuguese farmhouse - made of granite, wooden windows and doors. The interior is modern and bright, very spacious. The nearest beach is at Esposende, 30 mins drive along the motorway. There is a huge choice of beaches along the coast, the sand is white and fine. There are lots of local restaurants in this part of the world, the average price for a good 3 course lunch is 8 Euros, 4 Euros for a main dish only. You can eat well at little cost. Bakeries and cake shops are everywhere and a must - no-one thinks twice about going to the cafe at least once or twice a day. It's very cheap and too good to miss ! From the house you can drive to the Douro valley and back on the same day - it takes about 2 hours to get there. The scenery is unique, with all the vines growing in steep terraces. You'll never forget this area. If you're not fond of too much driving it's easy and cheap to leave your car at Guimarães or Braga railway station and catch the train to Porto. This Braga/Guimarães area is very central to explore the north of Portugal - we always recommend Ponte de Lima, Viana do Castelo and of course the beautiful gardens of Bom Jesus and Penha, in Braga and Guimarães. For those interested in history there's the nearby Citania de Briteiros, a celtic settlement. it's possible to spend a day there wandering around the reconstructed houses and streets, wondering how life was over 2000 years ago. There are other celtic settlements at Póvoa de Lanhoso,20 minutes away and at Esposende, 30 minutes away.
