A stunning country house, part of which dates from the 17th century, set in just under 2 acres of grounds, situated in the small village of Bronygarth above the beautiful Glyn Ceiriog Valley. With views to Chirk Castle, this superb Shropshire holiday home boasts many original features including polished wooden floors, ornate ceilings and beautiful fireplaces.

General Info

This beautiful area of Shropshire offers many walks and cycle routes with Offa's Dyke Path running close by. The cottage boasts magnificent views of Chirk Castle, a 14th century fortress owned by the National Trust, which sits across the valley and which the more energetic amongst your party can walk to along the historic Offa's Dyke path. Just a short drive away is the popular tourist town of Llangollen with a steam railway, a variety of watersports and the stunning Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, which is a World Heritage Site. Of course, with so much to do in the grounds, you may never wish to leave this magnificent Bronygarth holiday home; a truly wonderful destination that will live long in the memory.  Shop and pub 2 miles.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The village of Bronygarth is in the Ceiriog Valley and lies on the Offa's Dyke Path, the boundary between England and Wales. Just across the River Ceiriog is the magnificent 14th century Marcher Fortress of Chirk Castle with its award-winning gardens, medieval tower and dungeon. The small border town of Chirk is referred to as "The Gateway to Wales" and has pubs, restaurants, a village store, gift shop, canal boat marina and a golf course. Ceiriog Valley, known as ' The Valley of Poets' was described by Lloyd George as "a little bit of heaven on earth" and has walks, cycle routes and local trout fishing. Nearby, the ancient border town of Oswestry boasts restaurants, numerous shops, historic buildings and traditional pubs as well as its well preserved hilltop Iron Age fort with wonderful far reaching views. There are many historic houses and castles nearby including Powis Castle, Erddig and Attingham Park. The nine meres of Ellesmere are close by giving you the chance for scenic walks, sailing, fishing and boat trips, an abundance of wildlife and great birdwatching opportunities. Further afield are the Welsh Mountains and coast, Lakes Bala and Vyrnwy, medieval Shrewsbury, the Roman walled city of Chester and the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge.

Interior Details

With stunning views from the front, this large house near Oswestry boasts 10 beautifully furnished bedrooms, six of which can accommodate a family of four. Four of the bedrooms boast en-suite facilities, plus there are an additional three family bathrooms, one of which features a corner Jacuzzi bath. The large farmhouse-style kitchen has wooden floors, ceiling beams and an oil-fired Rayburn.  The galleried reception/dining room with sash windows and woodburning stove seats 26 people and the main sitting room has an inglenook fireplace and a woodburning stove.  There is also a library, a conservatory and a games room with a full-size snooker table.  Shared use of indoor swimming pool with sauna. Shared use of gym with treadmill, rowing machine, weights etc. Shared use of all-weather tennis court and two glass-backed squash courts.  Oil-fired Rayburn range cooker, electric oven and hob, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher.  TV with Freeview, DVD, CD/radio, iPod dock, WiFi, selection of books, games, toys and DVDs.

Exterior Details

Outside, there is a decked area with a hot tub.  The timber chalet at the rear of the garden houses the indoor heated swimming pool and sauna, or you may wish to enjoy a game of tennis on the all-weather court. The extensive grounds surround the house and consist of mature gardens, lawns, seating and a large brick-built barbecue. Off road parking for 10 cars.  Lockable bike storage.  

Conditions of Rental

Fuel, power and starter pack for fires inc. in rent.  Bed linen and towels inc. in rent.  Cot and highchair available.  Sorry, no pets and no smoking.  Garden is suitable for garden parties by prior arrangement with owner.  Outside catering can be arranged by owner.  No stag and hen parties.
