Cosy, private and surrounded by sensational scenery, the Writer’s Retreat is an idyllic refuge for anyone looking for romance, inspiration or escapism. Watch the sun set over the sea or otters and seals swim past the window - can you imagine anything more magical?
Whether you’re a writer or artist looking for a creative outlet, a couple searching for a lovely bolthole or someone who just wants to truly get away from it all, the Writer’s Retreat is a little corner of paradise. The quirky combination of living spaces makes it totally unique and full of character, the setting on the water is both soothing and invigorating, and all the comforts of a serviced guest room are at your disposal. You cannot fail to leave feeling restored.
You can easily while away the hours reading, writing, relaxing in the hot tub and watching life on the river but there are also mountains and beaches to explore, not to mention the city of Inverness and the islands of the Outer Hebrides.
Poolewe is located in the centre of Wester Ross on a circular road, the A832. To the north lies Ullapool, a small town with the ferry terminal serving Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides and to the south Kyle of Lochalsh, and the Isle of Skye. We are less than 5 hours’ drive from Edinburgh or Glasgow and only 90 minutes from Inverness.

The bedroom and living spaces are contained in a boathouse complete with a traditional king-size Scottish box bed, a cathedral ceiling, a wood burning stove, mood-lighting, a sofa overlooking the sea, a TV with Sky and a bathroom with under floor heating and a huge bath for two. Next door there is a shepherd’s hut where you can relax and indulge your artistic talents - here you will find a small fridge and a kettle, as well as a stable door with views across the bay to the hills beyond.
Outside there is a small grassed area with a patio, seating and a table, and there is also a hot tub in which to luxuriate as you watch the water flow by.
