Surrounded by National Trust woodland and only accessible by water or footpath, this Georgian coastguard cottage enjoys sensational views over the clear waters of the River Yealm. You’ll be hard pressed to find a place more special and historic than this.
Built in 1835 and retaining much of its original character, this listed whitewashed cottage truly is a one off place! Inside it has been simply and stylishly furnished, outside there is a wonderful front terrace from which you can enjoy views stretching from Dartmoor in the north, across the river to the village of Newton Ferrers and then round to Noss Mayo and the entrance to the sea. And a short walk (or row!) will take to you beaches, cafes, pubs and the coast path. This is the kind of landscape that stays with you forever.
From the cottage you can walk to Wembury beach and café or you can row to any of the three village pubs, or you can take the steps up to the surrounding National Trust land or head for the rugged beauty of the coast path. A short row or ferry trip will take you across to Newton Ferrers, home to a small collection of shops and pubs, or you could take a car to Plymouth, with its National Marine Aquarium and gin distillery, or to Dartmoor National Park.
The cottage is opposite the Yealm Pontoon, next to the Harbourmaster’s office.

There is a coal burning fireplace in the living room and entertainment facilities include a TV, books and board games, and the dining room has a table for six, an original Carron cooking range (not in use) and full river views. There is also a utility room with plenty of space to store coats, boots, oars etc.
At the front there is a sunny terrace with a dining table and stunning views across the river to the village and the sea. The cottage also has its own quay and boat mooring so you are welcome to bring your own boat or canoe.
