One-Off Feature

A unique handcrafted cosy cabin set in woodland within the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park in Portugal.  Totally offgrid, this is an exceptional way to switch off from everyday life and enjoy lazy days watching the world go by, and if you're lucky, spotting the wild boar which the cabin is aptly named after.

General Info

The Boar Hide sits within the grounds of an organic smallholding in mid Portugal, a rare place which is completely off-grid. No mains power and water, just acres of ancient unspoilt land and riverbank. There are two other dwellings on site but each is completely private (you could spend a week here without seeing the owners or any other guests) and allows plenty of space for relaxation and reflection. And of course boar spotting! This is a simple, charming and totally unique little hideaway within the stunning and historic Serra de Sao Mamede region of Portugal.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The countryside around here is utterly stunning and it’s easy to while away an afternoon wandering through the medieval paths in the area. And when you want to re-join civilisation, the picture-perfect village of Marvao is nearby, complete with breath-taking views, its own castle and a maze of winding streets. At 995m it is reportedly the highest inhabited village in Portugal and it is refreshingly untouched by modern life. There is a bar where all the locals hang out, and it is also home to a number of seasonal festas including the Festa de Castanhas in November, where there are all sorts of chestnut goodies on offer.
