One-Off Feature

This pretty rural windmill in France is a wonderfully romantic retreat - perfect for couples who want to escape the rat race, or for a honeymoon with a difference.  Set at the end of a village in Lot et Garonne in southwestern France, it has lovely views, a private pool, and is walking distance to the village shop and restaurant.

General Info

The moulin is on a rural cul de sac at the edge of Loubes Bernac village.  Within walking distance there is a local restaurant, village shop and post office.  There are larger shops and supermarkets, petrol stations and banks all within a half an hour drive.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

There is lots to do in the surrounding area.  The region is famous for its gastronomie, wine, chateaux, its medieval bastide towns, its delightfully pretty rolling countryside, the Dordogne river and several caves.  Within a half hour drive there are towns of Duras with its imposing Chateau, the ancient bastide town of Eymet with its weekly summer (July/August) evening market and Bergerac famous for Cyrano and Roxanne, but also for its wine and tobacco.  Day trips to historic and spectacular towns of Sarlat, Domme and more distantly Rocamadour are highly recommended. There are several chateaux in the vicinity. Vineyards are everywhere and wine tasting is very popular. St Emillion is about one hour away and offers wine and a very interesting Cathedral carved out of rock. Amongst the golf courses in the vicinity is a prestigious 27- hole course at Chateau de Vigiers, only 15 minutes away. The Chateau also offers tennis and fishing and the brasserie overlooking the chateau and its lake provides drinks, lunches and evening meals.  There is canoeing on the Dordogne river, there are several tennis courts nearby and hot air balloon trips can be arranged.  We can provide information about local walking and cycling routes.  One of the walks, the Four Windmills walk takes you directly past the Moulin de Brisseaux.

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
The windmill is made of natural stone which means it is cool in summer and warm in winter. There are French shutters to the windows and doors. For comfort ceiling fans have been added in some rooms.  On the ground floor is the kitchen / diner and the shower room.  The kitchen is fully fitted and equipped and includes cooker, microwave, large fridge (with small freezer compartment) and washing machine.  There is a dining table and chairs here.  The shower room has a small under stairs shower and a toilet.  The bedroom (a double) is on the first floor and is open plan.  The bedroom has a washbasin and under stairs wardrobe / storage area.  The lounge is on the second floor.  It has comfortable seating and a delightful view over the vineyard to the hillside beyond.  There is a TV with DVD player (no satellite or French TV), and a small selection of DVDs, books and games. There is electric heating throughout making the windmill suitable for year-round stays.

Exterior Details
The windmill is set in a private garden of a quarter of an acre with lovely countryside views and large shady trees.  There’s a BBQ, pergola and seating area, and lots of places where you can find shade in the day and watch the sun set at night.  There’s a private swimming pool (8m x 4m, and 1.3m deep throughout) with a sunny poolside patio and loungers. Secure parking onsite.

Conditions of Rental
The windmill has lots of character. As you would expect in an original windmill, the interior is compact (especially the shower). This is an inherent part of your magical stay in a 200 year old historic windmill.  However, the rustic nature of the place means the windmill is not suitable for children or those with any mobility issues.  No pets and no smoking please.  Tourist tax payable locally.  Linen, towels and bedding provided.
