General Info
Mead Chapel is a beautiful 1920s chapel conversion in one of Somerset’s prettiest and most sought after villages. It has been fully refurbished and furnished in 2019 with a feature chandelier, rugs, pictures, wooden chests and wall hangings, and the galleried bedroom boasts a carved wooden bed. At first glance this pretty chapel looks a perfect place for a cosy, quiet or romantic break away, which it is, but it is also deceptively well positioned in such a great location that makes it the perfect touring base for those who also want to get out and about to explore this part of Somerset and the Somerset Levels.

Drayton itself has a beautiful church, village hall and thriving public house. The village hosts its own annual fete during the first week of September including a classic car rally. It is splendidly located close to the wildlife rich Somerset levels and near to the vibrant village of Curry Rivel and riverside town of Langport both of which are suitable for everyday needs.

Within easy reach and a short drive away is the ancient town of Glastonbury with its famous abbey, ancient hilltop tor and Rural Life Museum and ‘enchanted’ Chalice Well and gardens. The Wookey Hole caves and attraction and the famous Cheddar Gorge are also within 20 miles and worth a visit.

For those looking for some retail therapy only a short drive away is Clarkes Village at Street which is a must. The county town of Taunton with its shopping centre and county cricket grounds is just 12 miles as is the town of Yeovil with its multiplex cinema, Octagan Theatre, bowling alley and various eating places. For those interested in naval aviation history the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton is worth a visit and the Haynes International Motor Museum is also a great day out.

If you are seeking some extra culture there are National Trust properties locally at Barrington Court (home of the TV series Wolf Hall), Tintinull Gardens, Montacute House and the Priests House at Muchelney all within a short drive, along with exceptional walks such as Hamm Hill an iron age hill fort with superb views and a very useful pub serving food and hot/cold drinks also within a short drive! Locally there are several renowned restaurants/public houses and also the famous Brown and Forrest smokery at Hambridge is within a mile and has a super restaurant providing delicious breakfasts and lunches. A visit to this part of Somerset would also not be complete without a visit to a local cider brandy producer where tours of the orchards and distillery can be arranged.

If you fancy a visit to the seaside, a bit further afield but within 30 miles or a 45-50-minute drive are both the North and South coast; Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-super-Mare to the north and the Jurassic Coast of Charmouth and Lyme Regis to the south. The spa town of Bath is just over an 1¼ hours away and is also worth making a trip to. Shop and restaurant 1 mile, pub 220 yards.
