One-Off Feature

Set in a National Park, this stunning five bedroom villa in Andalucia is modelled on an old Spanish cortijo. Being only a kilometre from Aracena, it is within easy walking distance of the town, yet wonderfully secluded, tucked in around the side of a hill, giving breathtaking views over the Aracena reservoir and away to the far off peaks of the Badajoz province. If you're in search of family villas in Spain, especially if you're after villas for large groups, then this is an excellent choice.

General Info

As large villas to rent in Spain go, this is a fabulous choice with its flexible accommodation and rural, yet accessible setting. Surrounded by 10 hectares of broad-leafed chestnut trees, olives and cork oaks, Fince el Tornero de Abajo is quiet enough only to hear the sound of the birds, the distant bray of a donkey or the evening conversation of the local farm dogs, echoing up from the valley far below. In springtime, the finca is abundant with flowering cistus and the heady smell of wild oregano.  On entering the property there is an immediate and overpowering sense of privacy and tranquillity. Passing the centuries-old drystone wall that encloses the olive grove, the driveway threads its way through a corridor of chestnut trees before swinging round to reveal the true wonderment of El Tornero`s position. The land is steep on either side of the track with cork oaks and chestnut trees spilling down into the fertile valley of Fuente del Rey, and throughout the 10 hectares of the property there are countless hidden-away places that are ideal for exploring or for a quiet moment of contemplation.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

All the white-washed villages in the Sierra de Aracena are linked by small cobbled tracks called Caminos Reales which is ideal terrain for both the serious walker and the laid back rambler. There are maps and books in the house which will guide you in the right direction! Even though Aracena has a population of only about 8,000, the town boasts over 60 bars and 4 nightclubs. There is a tennis court at the sports centre on the road out of town to Huelva. There is a 9 hole course 25 minutes away at Rio Tinto and for those who want a serious game, there are a plethora of championship courses in Sevilla and Huelva. You are never far away from some outstanding sights which include the ruined Knights Templar fortifications, underground caves and the old mines at Rio Tinto. Or simply take one of the small roads that lead out of town and see where you end up!

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
This villa in Andalucia is built on an L-shaped design with towering wooden-beamed ceilings that keep the house cool. In one leg, the huge well-appointed kitchen leads through a wide arch into a beautiful sitting room, off which three French windows open out onto a large balcony. The sitting room and the kitchen each have an airconditioning unit. In the south facing leg, along a passage, are the spacious bedrooms, kept cool during the day by the dappled shade of chestnut trees. Each bedroom also has aircon / heating and its own bathroom (two of which are ensuite, two are separate but private). The two bedrooms with private bathrooms can either be set up as single beds or linked to become 180cm doubles. The main bedroom has a 150cm double and bedroom two an emperor double at 200cm wide.  On the north side of the house, there is a laundry and self contained apartment with a 150cm double bed, kitchen, seating area and shower room. This room serves as the 5th bedroom and is particularly popular in the summer as it is especially quiet and cool although it does also have aircon/heating if needed.

Exterior Details
The house has doors leading out into an enclosed shrubbed courtyard with ample shade, either under the roofed gallery that runs the full length of the L-shape, or in the small templeta - a perfect place for your evening drink. Infront of the house there is a grass lawn, a unique feature in Spain, which is a perfect place for children to stretch their legs over a game of football or boules, while the flowerbeds that border the steps leading down to the swimming pool are heady with the smell of lavender and rosemary. Below the large swimming pool is the Casa Escondida which can be rented at a small cost for any overflow. It has recently been renovated and sleeps 6 with one full shower room and an extra loo/basin, a fully equipped kitchen/sitting room. The house has aircon/heating throughout the living space and bedrooms.  Loos for the pool use can be found in the recently converted garage, where there is also a baby changing station so that returning to the house can be kept to a minimum when you are enjoying life by the pool.
