This palazzo apartment in the heart of Florence is known as the apartment where opera started. Once used by an eminent 16th century group as a meeting space to construct lyrical opera’s principles, it is now a simply stunning three bedroom apartment in a beautiful setting.
The building in which the apartment is situated (within the 1420 Palazzo Bardi) is one of Brunelleschi’s masterpieces. At Via de Benci 5, Florence, it is on one of the city’s finest areas, with easy access to the delights of the city and the Arno river. Florence is well served by road, rail and air, and is the perfect gateway to a wider exploration of the innumerable delights of Tuscany.
Florence has a large number of legendary and virtually mandatory attractions and there is enough to see and do here to keep you busy for a long time! These include the Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Pitti and the home of Michelangelo's David, the Accademia. If you want to see a less touristy side of the city, this too is easy to find; if you go off piste and wander down some sidestreets it won’t be long before you an artisan handicraft boutique or similar. Opportunities for fine dining are limitless in Florence - trattorias on almost every street corner to suit a range of budgets and tastes. Trattoria Zà Zà is conveniently situated right on Piazza del Mercato Centrale but it is as popular with Florentines as it is with visitors. Its ravioli with truffle sauce is legendary. For more casual dining there is also a plethora of choices, with Gusta Pizza on Via Maggio widely regarded as the best pizzeria in town despite very reasonable prices. Historic, riverside Harry's Bar serves classy cocktails in a beautiful yet relaxed setting.
Florence is one of Italy's best-situated and well-connected European cities. Peretola airport is just a twenty minute drive from the city centre. Santa Maria Novella train station is within easy reach of the Florentine Camerata, and the excellent rail services include an easy 1.5 hour journey time to Rome. Reliable local buses also serve the city.

This spacious first floor apartment can sleep up to seven people in three bedrooms. It is a treasure trove of contemporary and antique design, which includes original 18th century frescoes, medieval terracotta sculpture and a seventeenth century sofa. Then there are stylish modern additions such as the Eames and Le Corbusier furnishings and designer mood lighting. Remnants of the apartment’s former life as a Renaissance theatre are everywhere, including relics of the 500 year old scenery and set designs. The lower level entrance leads into a double height drawing room, which in turn connects to several beautifully restored bedrooms. The master bedroom suite has a bathroom, and two further bedrooms have en suites and relaxation areas. There’s an additional toilet and utility corner with washing machine and dryer. The mezzanine level has a further drawing room, a dining room with seating for up to ten, and a high spec kitchen which is perfect for everything from intimate dining to formal entertaining and includes coffee and cocktail bars. The apartment also has Wifi, Sat TV, DVD, CD and sound system.
The Palazzo's courtyard is designed with antique marbles and decorative ironmongery and, in Brunelleschi’s signature style, Andrea della Robbia majolicas. It forms the perfect prelude to exploring the palace itself.
At street level the owners have also converted a lovely fifteenth-century fast food locale into a popular and lovely little restaurant simply known as La Buchetta.
