Extensively remodelled around 150 years ago, yet retaining its Georgian windows, elegant facade and pretty gabled roof, the house has 9 large double bedrooms and 7 bathrooms, all of which are on the first floor. The morning room and drawing room are both generously sized, and the sumptuous dining room will comfortably seat a full house of guests. There’s also an impressive kitchen which is fully equipped with everything that you or your caterers might need.
The house is set in 50 acres of wonderfully wild gardens and parkland. The immediate grounds around the house have large lawns stretching down to the burbling Triffrwd River and to the left of the house is a large Edwardian stable block with its own courtyard and entrance. Behind the house spring bulbs flood the woodland garden and at the eastern end, rhododendrons take over, forming a dense screen to the lane and the river. Alongside the west of the house a charming sitting and dining garden has been created where a large table and BBQ sit on the stone flagged area. And beyond the stable block is a vegetable garden with a geometric layout of paths and beds.
Felin Newydd was purchased in the early to mid-20th Century by Sir David Evans Bevan and used as a shooting lodge to entertain friends and business associates. The house was completely redecorated during the 1950s under the watchful eye of Lady Eira and with the help of the well-known interior designer Mrs Monro of 11 Montpelier Street, London. The house remained unaltered for nearly 50 years but after an extensive period of renovation, we have been able to remove the dustsheets and enjoy the results of all the hard work and patience.
