Set in the green heart of Italy, Caicresce is a beautiful stone farmhouse for ten near the medieval village of Montone in Umbria. Recently renovated, it is set in five acres, surrounded by olive groves, and has a private pool. With lots to see and do in the vicinity, it’s a superb choice for a family villa.
Montone, which in Italian means "Aries" or the "Ram", is a small medieval village unchanged throughout the centuries and beautifully preserved. It is just a five minute drive from Caicresce. It is surrounded by sturdy walls and has a network of narrow streets, alleys and stairways. Perugia, the capital of Umbria is 25 mins away. It’s a stylish and busy hilltop city with strong cultural traditions and fine monuments. It is home to the national gallery for early church paintings and icons and has a magnificent Romanesque cathedral as well as many art treasures.
Umbria and neighbouring regions provide sightseeing opportunities to suit all tastes and interests. The geographic location of Montone in central Italy means that you are never very far away from a large number of places of interest. Whether you enjoy architecture, history, ruins, art or scenery, this part of Italy will not disappoint. There are lots of opportunities to day trips to fascinating places - even Rome is just a 2 hour drive. Siena and Florence are both 1.5 hours away. Pienza and Montepluciano are 1 hour. Arezzo, Assisi and the Lake Trasimeno area are all less than one hour away. There are lots of activities available in the vicinity. There is a choice of golf courses and country clubs (one local country club also has a pool and can organise horse riding). There are play parks of varying types in Montone and Umbertide. There are public tennis courts in Umbertide. Lake Trasimeno has a variety of beach and water based activities such as windsurfing or sailing. Castiglione del Lago is a small town with a beach area with umbrellas, sunbeds, pedlos and rowboats for hire, along with other traditional seaside activities such as trampolines and bumper cars. If it’s the real seaside you’re after, then your nearest are the east coast beach resorts of Rimini and Fano, which are a two hour drive. There is a waterpark at San Giustino. There are heaps of opportunities for hiking and cycling - lots of ideas in the information at the house, but there are some fabulous national parks in the area which are well worth exploring.
The nearest airport is Perugia (30 mins) but there are several others in the vicinity including Forli (1 hr 15), Pisa (2 hr 15), Rome (2 hr 15). Local directions from the E45 to the house will be supplied upon booking.
Nearest Train Station:
The house has five en suite bedrooms and can sleep up to ten people. Three rooms are queen doubles and there are two twin rooms. Cots and additional children’s beds available. There are three spacious reception rooms with sofas and chairs. There is TV, DVD and CD, along with a DVD and CD library and a selection of books and games. The dining room can set up to 12. There’s a woodburning stove and gas central heating for cooler times of year. The large kitchen has handmade units and worktops in oak and granite and is well equipped with dishwasher, fridge freezer, oven etc. There’s an adjacent utility room with washing machine and tumble drier. An adjacent two bedroom guesthouse which sleeps up to four people in 2 en-suite bedrooms can be rented separately for smaller parties.
There are five acres of land surrounding the house which ensures privacy and seclusion. There is a tree lined drive and a shady parking area. There is a large terrace and lawn surrounding the house with stunning uninterrupted views of the valley. There is a covered pergola for al fresco dining, and a path leading down to the pool and poolhouse, with sunloungers and umbrellas. The pool is 12m x 6m with steps and a maximum depth of 1.8m. Behind and in front of the house are mature olive groves. At the rear of the guest house is a footpath which descends through an oak forest to a stream below. From the terrace you can sometimes see buzzards circling overhead and on summer evenings fireflies dart around. Light pollution is minimal and the sky is awash with stars.
