One-Off Feature

Set within 24 acres of wonderful private grounds and nestled on the edge of a quiet village, this charming 18th century French manor house offers an enchanting little piece of paradise in the heart of Burgundy and comes complete with your very own cook to ensure ultimate relaxation!

General Info

With extensive gardens and grounds, a heated swimming pool, a tennis court and your own private chef included in the price, La Maison du Chateau is a place to completely relax and unwind. The grounds contain two separate properties which can be rented together or individually – the Manor House, which has nine bedrooms, and the Gatehouse, which has two. Both houses are simply and elegantly furnished, offering total comfort and cosiness, but the real magic here lies in the surroundings, from the riverbanks and woodland to the orchard, walled garden and terraces. Whether you’re lazing in a shady spot, running around after a ball or exploring the meandering pathways, you could spend your entire holiday discovering these delightful grounds.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The house and park sit on the edge of the quiet village of Cry-sur-Armancon, with its picturesque church, bridge and tree-lined river which borders the park. Burgundy as a whole has a huge amount to offer and in many ways still feels undiscovered. There are magnificent chateaux and abbeys to visit, and towns like Tonnerre, Noyers-sur-Serein and villages like Flavigny and Abbaye de Fontenay (both made famous by films) are lovely places to explore. Naturally there is a wealth of wine-tasting opportunities in this part of the world and there are also excellent restaurants and bustling markets all over the region. You could spend your time rambling and cycling through the gorgeous rolling countryside or you could get very active and try kayaking, horse riding, golf or hot air ballooning. And if you just want to stay in the grounds of the house you could play tennis, croquet or ping pong, relax by the pool and go rowing on the river.

Getting There & Local Amenities

Our local town, Montbard, is only 15 minutes’ drive away and offers TGV links to Paris (1 hr) and from there to London (2.5 hrs). Most of the drive is on the A26 motorway past Reims and Troyes, with the last hour's drive on local roads through pretty villages and countryside. Accommodation Details

Interior Details
The main part of the Manor House has seven bedrooms all with their own bathrooms. Three of these rooms face West across the park, two are situated in the East wing, the attic contains a further bedroom and the final room downstairs looks out onto the courtyard. The house also encompasses a stylish drawing room where you can sit and relax. The converted barn adjacent to the main house contains a large studio-cum-music room and two further bedrooms. The studio room has tall French windows which look over the pool and park, with an elegant balcony and stone staircase leading down to the pool. The Barn also contains a grand piano, a large central table, and simple sofas and chairs. The Gatehouse is an 18th century stone building by the gateway to the park. It has a large living room/kitchen with an original flagstone floor and log burning stove, two bedrooms and all the mod cons.

Exterior Details
Entering the park through its 19th century gates gives you a captivating taste of what lies beyond. The grounds are bordered by the wooded banks of the river Armancon on which you can picnic, fish, or row a boat across to your own private island. Close to the house is a heated pool set in a sun-filled terrace and enclosed by a clematis-covered fence. There is a hot shower and changing space, plenty of deck chairs and sun beds, and a large covered area with a fridge and BBQ where you can sit and eat. Around the rest of the park you will find a walled garden, an avenue of chestnut trees, a hard tennis court in the old orchard, and a stone wood house and pigeonnier. The Gatehouse has its own secluded garden, a BBQ area, and a gateway down some steps to a wooded path leading to the river where there is a dinghy for your use.

Further Details
We have an excellent cook at the house whose services are included in the rental price (this is optional in low season). The cooking is exceptional and the service makes for a great value and stress-free holiday. Whether you want a buffet lunch, picnic by the river or a four course dinner menu, our cook can provide it. There is also a maid service available and on arrival the rooms will be ready with beds made up, clean towels out, and fresh flowers on display. The size and location of La Maison du Chateau make it the perfect place to hold
