One-Off Feature

Beautiful, comfortable and sustainable are the buzzwords at this campsite in East Sussex and it is easy to see why. Hand-built using reclaimed, recycled and locally sourced materials and situated in a tiny peaceful village, these huts are both charming and unique.

General Info

Based on the idea of an old shepherd’s hut, the huts are built using recycled chassis from touring caravans, old corn bins for the roofs, and wood from the farm for the worktops and seat covers. The remaining timber used in the construction is all from responsibly farmed forests, the Farrow & Ball paints are made with natural pigments, and the lighting system is powered via a solar panel on the roof. Everything has been done with minimal environmental impact as a priority so that you can relax in a lovely natural setting with complete peace of mind. The site is currently home to five huts, each of which can sleep at least 4 people. And top things to bring? A torch, a lighter, towels, wellies and, most importantly, marshmallows!

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The huts are located on Quarry Farm in the village of Bodiam in East Sussex. The River Rother (which guests can fish in) meanders quietly through the open farmland, and this is the perfect habitat for all sorts of flora, fauna and wildlife. A short stroll across the fields is our local pub, The Castle Inn, and across the road from the pub you will find Bodiam Castle, with its moat, turrets and battlements. Running into the farm is the Kent and Sussex Steam Railway, which offers a wonderful trip through the valley to the nearby Cinque Ports town of Tenterden, and a small ferry runs down the river from the castle to the village of Newenden. There are two further country pubs within walking distance, The White Dog Inn in Ewhurst Green and The Salehurst Halt in Salehurst, as well as the Michelin-starred Curlew Restaurant. Within 30 minutes’ drive you will find the ancient towns of Rye and Battle, and 7 miles of sandy beach at Camber.
