Natural, rustic and totally secluded, the Bamboo Tree House, nestled high in the trees in the heart of a rainforest jungle, offers a romantic and truly memorable experience which is guaranteed to leave you wanting more.
Set deep in the forest and accessible only via a steep rocky 15 minute hike, the tree house is completely isolated and neighboured by nothing but wildlife. This is not the place for extravagant luxury and expensive room service – instead it is a place where you can lose yourself in unspoilt natural surroundings and experience an almost lost sense of community and sustainable living. Bathe in river pools, wander amongst organic gardens and explore the beautiful rainforest which teems with life. You won’t ever forget your time here.
The tree house is set in the heart of the Rosalie Rainforest, about a mile away from the main road. The site is bordered by 3 clean rivers and set against a backdrop of forested mountains, and a spectacular Atlantic beach is just a half hour walk away. This is a great place to unwind and laze about, but if you want to be more active there’s plenty to keep you busy. Go hiking in the mountains and lakes, dive in some of the world's most spectacular waters, take a tour round the island, go donkey trekking, spot a variety of birds, bathe beneath waterfalls, go whale or turtle watching, play cricket, go surfing, try your hand at some traditional local activities, or just lie back and have a massage.
Dominica's only commercial airport is Melville Hall, and there is also a ferry service linking Dominica with the neighbouring islands. Whether you arrive at one of the airports or at the ferry terminal, there are normally plenty of taxis waiting. Whichever your port of entry, the journey time is around an hour, and you can expect to pay between EC$150 -200/US$60-80 for your taxi. See the website for detailed driving directions.

As you would expect, the walls are a bamboo structure, and the floors are made of Boit Diabla, a local hardwood. The house is furnished with a double bed and a hammock (a spare single bed can be added for a small fee) and there are benches, tables and shelves for your belongings. The tree house has a private wash room with a state-of-the-art composting toilet and underneath the house is a private shower which is supplied by a rainwater collecting system. There is also a drinking water filter system. Electric lights are powered by a small wind/solar system.
The tree house is situated in Rosalie Forest Eco Lodge, which, along with the 3 Rivers Eco Lodge, spreads over 9.5 acres of land. There is a shared communal kitchen in the forest area where you can cook, chat, read and relax. The Coco River restaurant and bar provides daily specials for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and all around the resort there are picturesque picnic spots - alongside the river, on the hillside looking out to sea, or in a shady spot underneath a tree.
In addition to the Bamboo Tree House, there are various other types of accommodation within the eco resort – a second tree house, a lodge, an apartment and two cottages. There is also camping and dormitory-style hostel accommodation available and the owners can arrange village homestays. See the website for information about packages and workshops available.
