On the rugged East Cape of Cabo, within walled gardens full of exotic plants and butterflies, sits El Encanto, a colourful and eclectic art house where you can dive on the reef, windsurf on the Sea of Cortez or just hang in the hammock. Bliss.
A far cry from the glitz and hype of Cabo San Lucas, the East Cape is beautiful and wild in equal measure. Characterised by rocks, towering sand dunes and miles of deserted beaches, and home to the Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park, this is an unspoilt off-grid community to where you can truly escape - and El Encanto is the perfect property at which to do that. Art is a central theme and the house is full of folk art, contemporary nature-inspired works, oriental carpets and handcrafted furniture. But it is also a place of comfort and luxury, with three charming suites and rooms that spill out onto generous patios and landscaped gardens. A stay here is a holiday experience that you will cherish forever.
Cabo Pulmo is a laidback fishing village which is home to a few restaurants and dive centres and, thankfully, very little else. Its location within the Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park (which is famous for its coral reef and large schools of fish) means that diving and snorkelling are a must, but it is also a very popular area for fishing, kayaking and windsurfing, not to mention land-based activities like hiking, mountain biking and bird watching. Forget nightlife and bright lights, this is a place where you can reconnect with nature, have an adventure or just lie by the sea and forget your worries.
Los Cabos International Airport is just over an hour away. Taxis cost about $150 but most visitors rent a car.
In the village
Almost on the doorstep!
Small store in the village or La Ribera (16 miles)
The house has three suites, each of which has its own distinctive style and all of which have a private entrance and patio. The Casita Suite has a queen size canopy bed and a grotto-like en-suite bathroom, the Vista Suite has a king size canopy bed and fantastic 180 degree views, and the Fountain Suite can be made up as either a twin or a king. Out within the main house there is a well-appointed kitchen with a built-in BBQ, a formal dining area and a living room with two sofas.
There are several covered patios complete with hammocks and furniture and the house is surrounded by private walled gardens full of plants from around the world.
The village of Cabo Pulmo is off the grid but everything at the house is efficiently solar-powered so you wouldn’t know it. Guidelines on ‘solar living’ will be provided.
