Set within its own grounds with panoramic views over the Caribbean, Cassava is an idyllic holiday villa on the charming and unspoilt island of Bequia in the Grenadines. If you’re looking for understated luxury less than 200 paces from the beach you’ve come to the right place.
Cassava offers the ultimate in relaxation, with a talented house manager and his friendly efficient staff on hand to help in whatever way they can. Each of the three large bedrooms has its own terrace, the villa is superbly equipped throughout with all the mod cons, and everything from private dining and housekeeping to an exceptional concierge service is at your fingertips. And the setting is unbeatable – just a stone’s throw from the white sand of Lower Bay, one of the Caribbean’s finest swimming beaches.
The island of Bequia lies 9 miles south of St Vincent in the archipelago of the Grenadines at the southern end of the Caribbean. It is not the most well known island but its old world feel, friendly local people, white sand beaches, good restaurants and lively bars are a huge draw. The nearby beach, Lower Bay, is perfect for swimming and relaxing, and the bay has three beach bars which serve cold drinks and simple hot food. The island also has some Atlantic-facing beaches which differ in character and are excellent for body-surfing. The island town of Port Elizabeth has lots of shops and restaurants and from here you can also take a boat to explore the other islands. Highly recommended is a day trip to the beautiful Tobago Cays to experience some of the finest snorkelling and diving in the world.
Bequia is best reached from the gateway international airport of Barbados. From here take a short connecting flight to Bequia with SVG. Work is scheduled to be completed soon on a new international airport on St. Vincent which will make the journey more direct. We recommend renting a vehicle/jeep during your stay for exploring the island.
A short walk from the villa
The house was designed and constructed by a distinguished Mustique architect and the build has been inspired both by local and classic English styles. The materials and furniture have been imported from places both close by and afar and the house is equipped with everything you would expect from a contemporary house, with fans throughout and additional air-conditioning in the bedrooms. The accommodation is laid out over two floors, with a large entertaining space that extends outdoors, and the dining room has seating for 12 under a gazebo style roof. The master bedroom has an enormous four poster bed and the other bedrooms have twins which can be interlinked. The villa is fitted with a TV, DVD player and WiFi.
The main coral stone terrace has soft seating for 8 and is the perfect place to look over the harbour and the bay while watching the sun set. The living room opens out into a courtyard filled with frangipani and ginger lilies and from the courtyard an external staircase leads up to a sun deck with loungers and far reaching views. Off the kitchen there is another small terrace with BBQ. A private path takes you directly through the hillside garden to the beach so you can wander down the stone steps for an early morning swim in the calm waters. The parking bay has room for 4 cars and a turning circle and is accessible via a discreet tarmac road.
The villa comes with fantastic staff, not least Patrick Hepburn, who is not only the general manager but is also a very talented chef. You will also be looked after by a housekeeper (maid service is included), a gardener and a waitress.
