Close to beautiful Cow Bay beach and the Great Barrier Reef is an eco-friendly, sustainable cottage where you can relax in comfort and experience the natural beauty of the Daintree Rainforest on your doorstep.

General Info

If your idea of the perfect holiday is rainforest walks, abundant birds and butterflies, varied wildlife, and an atmosphere of peace and solitude, then look no further than Moo Bay Muse. Just 1km from the beach and caressed by year-round gentle sea breezes, this is a place to retreat, rest and unwind. Solar generated power and a rain-fed water supply keep the cottage environmentally-friendly, and an open plan design lets you enjoy forest and garden views from every room. Explore the forest and private creek via a path from the rear of the cottage, or just immerse yourself in the sounds of the forest from the comfort of the cottage.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The cottage is located in the Daintree Rainforest and backs onto World Heritage listed National Park. The Daintree offers a wide range of activities, and from the cottage guests can easily access rainforest and wildlife walks, swim in freshwater creeks, snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef, horse ride along deserted white sand beaches, sea kayak to nearby Snapper island, cruise on the Daintree river in search of crocodiles, birds, butterflies and other wildlife, 'surf' the jungle canopy, visit an exotic fruit farm and have the chance to see cassowaries in the wild. The Cow Bay community is a 5km drive away and here you will find a pub which serves food, a coffee shop, an ice-cream shop and a small art gallery. The closest township is Cape Tribulation (approximately a 35 minute drive to the North) where there is a small supermarket and a chemist as well as several restaurants, tour operators and resorts. An hour’s drive to the South are Mossman and Port Douglas.

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
This one bedroom cottage has an upstairs loft accessible by ladder, forming a second bedroom, sleeping a maximum of four adults. The main bedroom has a king size bed, a small balcony and garden views. The loft can be made up either with a king bed or two singles and has an adjoining veranda with tree top views. There is a DVD player, a CD player and small flat screen TV, and access to broadband is via a satellite dish. The Muse also has a CD library and a selection of books, games and DVDs for guest use, as well as 2 pushbikes and helmets and snorkelling gear.

Exterior Details
Outside, there are two gas BBQs and a camp fire BBQ, and a supply of ready cut firewood and kindling is provided. The cottage also has a stylish undercover outdoor bathroom so guests can shower under the forest canopy or under the stars. The grounds are fenced to keep any large stray wildlife from getting too close.

Further Details
The Daintree Rainforest is one of the oldest remaining rainforests in the world and remains unspoilt despite the increasing pressures of encroaching civilisation. It is home to thousands of plant species and is alive with a diverse selection of native fauna including the cassowary. Cassowaries, rainforest monitors and lizards, several types of tree frogs as well as many species of birds and butterflies live in the forest that surrounds the cottage. Rainfall is likely at most times of the year. The wet season usually begins around Christmas and is at its wettest during February and March. Swimming at the beach is not advised between mid-November and April/May because of the possible presence of marine stingers. Please note that the cottage has been designed to allow guests to live in the heart of the forest and enjoy the sounds, smells and wildlife up close. There are no insect screens so geckos and insects may come into the house. As an eco-retreat open to the elements there is no air-conditioning, but fans are installed in every room. So if you can't live without the comforts of air-conditioning, a hairdryer or electric shaver this is not the retreat for you!

Conditions of Rental
This is a pet friendly property, but please advise at time of booking. The cottage is not suitable for young children. Minimum stay is 2 nights. All linen and beach towels are supplied. The cottage is located in a relatively remote area so it is important to bring adequate supplies of food and other essentials with you. On arrival you will be met by the cottage manager who will show you how the house works and explain how to use the amenities. Hair dryers and irons are not permitted. Laundry can be done by arrangement. The cottage is serviced every 3-4 days.
