One-Off Feature

The historic Rockhill House is set among 100 acres of private woodland in the hills above Letterkenny in County Donegal, Ireland.  It’s perfectly situated for exploring Glenveagh National Park, the Wild Atlantic Way and Causeway Coastal Route and is an excellent choice for a big family and loved ones get together such as a reunion, Christmas or New Year’s, celebrations such as birthdays or weddings or corporate retreats.  Gourmet dining and a variety of authentic local activities and experiences are available.

General Info

Dating to the 1700s, Rockhill House is a 19 bedroom (all ensuite) country manor with a fascinating history – including a period as a military barracks.  Revived, the House today again offers an idyllic rural escape whilst still being close to the town of Letterkenny, the City of Derry~Londonderry and within easy reach of 4 airports and Belfast and Larne ports.  People come to Rockhill to enjoy timeless Irish hospitality in a unique setting and to experience and learn about this part of Ireland, also known as the Northern Headlands region.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

Rockhill sits on the Wild Atlantic Way, the world’s longest defined coastal touring route running 2,500km along the western seaboard and is the perfect base for exploring Donegal and beyond.
Glenveagh National Park and castle are a 20 minute drive. To the West and South are gems such as Slieve League (some 3 times higher than the Cliffs of Moher), Doon Fort, Assaranca Waterfall, Beltany Stone Circle.  North of Rockhill are wonders such as the Grianan of Aileach and Fort Dunree and the starting point of the Causeway Coastal Route which begins at the historic walled city of Derry~Londerderry.  Continue along the coastline, recently featured in the Star Wars franchise and then on to Game of Thrones style castle settings, the Giant’s Causeway and Belfast (Northern Ireland’s capital and birthplace of the Titanic).  Regardless of the direction you travel you will find fun and adventure to suit everyone: you might want to visit some of the coastal islands, go sea fishing off dramatic cliff edge seascapes, enjoy world class links golf courses and taste the amazing variety of local food and drink as you do.  The estate staff will happily organise excursions and experiences for you including: Irish Farmhouse Cheese Tasting in the Rockhill Cheese Cellar, a wild Foraging & Culinary experience, Irish Dance Lessons, an opportunity to experience our Ancient Gaelic Games, Irish Coffee making and recommendations of local hiking and cycling/mountain biking trails.

Getting There & Local Amenities

Getting There:
Donegal, Derry and Belfast airports are just a short drive from Rockhill, and Ireland West airport is just a little further.  The house also has a helipad for those who would like to arrive by private helicopter (and you could have no better introduction to spectacular Donegal than to take a tour from the perspective of our Golden Eagles!)

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
The house has 19 bedrooms, each one individually designed and furnished.  The house oozes character and combines old style elegance with modern ease (including broadband wi-fi) and comfort.  There are lots of communal spaces for relaxing including the Stewart drawing room, garden room, TV room, library and two fully licensed bars (including secured wine store).
There are four dining spaces. The Stewart Dining Room is perfect for a formal meal, the Orangerie for a large group feast, the Slieve League room for a more intimate meal or The Church Bar and Restaurant for something more relaxed and the opportunity to meet our community. There is also a PA/Sound System and large projection screen - ideal for celebrations or movie nights.

Exterior Details
Rockhill is just on the edge of Letterkenny, Donegal’s largest town, yet it’s a world away from it all. As you wind your way up our 1 mile long beech-lined drive and look across the rolling lawns and acres of woodland you will feel as though you are stepping back in time. To the South East of the house are formal gardens complete with fountain, benches and laurel arches - picture-perfect and ready for cocktail hour. To the South is a small temple with stary internal roof and views across the valley and Letterkenny. A popular spot for snuggled reading, drawing and yoga.
