Nouvelle Aquitaine is the name of the region formerly known as Poitou Charentes.  It is made up of four regions - Charente, Charente Maritime, Deux Sevres and Vienne. Inland, the holiday rentals scene is one of serenity, with vast horizons and wooded valleys, the Poitou fens and Marais Poitevin, the soothing tranquility of canals, the valley of Vienne, the foothills of Charente and the Cognac vineyards. Your villa in Nouvelle Aquitaine allows you to explore all this and more. Also dotted around the countryside you may come across windmills - and if you've always fancied a holiday in a windmill, then you may well find one here. The capital of the region is Poitiers. La Rochelle is a lovely coastal town just south of Ile de Ré. The nearby towns at Marans and Surgeres also have some interesting features to explore and where you can find a delightful villa in Nouvelle Aquitaine which will give you a taste of day to day life. Inland a little are Rochefort, a 17th century grand new town around an important naval base; the 'most beautiful village' at Talmont-sur-Gironde; the town of Saintes; and the fortifications at Brouage.
