A fabulous old grain mill that dates back to before the 16th century that has been lovingly restored into a wonderful family home with character and charm. The mill is in a truly inspirational setting on a private organic cattle and cork estate (1000 acres) within the Parque Natural de los Alcornocales, near the watersports town of Tarifa in Andalucia, Spain.
The building'’s unique character has been emphasised in its design, combining traditional with contemporary; a glass window in the floor downstairs sheds light on how the mill functioned and clever lighting highlights the columns and the archways stonework. Other original features from its milling past have also been preserved - the metre-thick walls and flag stone tiles - which help to ensure that El Molino is wonderfully cool even at the height of summer. Set on an estate, the mill is just a short drive from the famous beaches of the Costa de la Luz and its magnificent wild oceanic scenery with Morocco as its backdrop!
El Molino is situated 3km from Algeciras and Los Barrios in a mountainous rural area, a protected area for its position within the largest cork forest in the world. The farm offers many activities - in Algeciras there is a water park suitable for children of all ages, and there are lots of watersport activities in Tarifa, Sotogrande and Gibraltar. Golf is also a popular option. The cultural cities of Sevilla, Jerez, Cadiz, Granada and Cordoba are suitable for day trips. The White Villages and Ronda are good day trips either by car or train.
The farm is 20 mins from Gibraltar, 1 hour from Jerez and Malaga and 2 hours from Sevilla aiports.

Algeciras has the best food market in the Bay
400m2 of living space. Supplementary large fridge and freezer. Bluetooth speakers for iPod or MP3 player. The downstairs is of a large open-plan design with vaulted ceilings that encompass the state-of-the-art modern kitchen with its enormous silestone work surface and breakfast bar. The kitchen is extremely well equipped; its six-hob range cooker (three ovens) and American style fridge/freezer/ice-machine make this an ideal setting to capitalise on some of the fantastic local produce (Algeciras market is a one-off, with the best in Mediterranean and Atlantic fish in the area, not to mention the plethora of Moroccan delicacies) or even for trying the home grown organic beef! Beyond the kitchen is the dining area with a wild olive dining table. The sitting room’s focus is the huge log fireplace, with its plump sofa, chaise longue and large brown leather arm chair.
The garden is out the back of the house on the entreplanta and it looks as though it goes on for as far as the eye can see, as the lush lawn tumbles away into the farm's pastures where the long-horned Retinto red cattle graze and the storks nest and clack. The rear terrace with large banquet style wooden table and benches is ideal for entertaining and for protection from the midday sun, serviced by the industrial size stainless steel Weber barbecue! There is an outdoor kitchen on the rear terrace with natural shade under the fig and Judas tree. The outdoor kitchen includes cupboards with all plates, glasses, cutlery, a sink, fridge/freezer and dishwasher so guests do not need to remove things from the kitchen. The garden is very child friendly with a huge sand pit area for the children, a hammock in the wild olive tree, a trampoline, a basketball net and a table tennis table. There is also a climbing frame with slide and two swings and a trapeze. (Toys can be left for guests use on request).

The farm boasts stunning walks that include a visit to its own Moorish thirteenth century look out tower, fishing in the reservoir, feeding the chickens and the horses, or taking a dip in the molino's swimming pool. There are excellent opportunites for bird watching as the farm sits below the bird migration route to and from Africa. The nearest beaches are at Algeciras and Los Barrios (3km). Tarifa and the beaches of the Costa de la Luz are a 20km drive with endless opportunities for watersports and kids clubs.
