Sitting right on the shore of the Pontevedra Estuary in a Galician fishing town in Spain is this delightful cottage, converted from an old salt warehouse. In the busy town of Combarro, there are bars and restaurants all around, so you can spend your days trying out the many local eateries. Enjoy the unforgettable views, listen to the sounds of the sea as you go to sleep, and feed fish from your window - this place is good for the soul.
Once a salt warehouse for local fishermen, this cottage in Northern Spain is now a carefully restored holiday house in a truly unique setting. The cottage sleeps 2 (although there is an additional bed for a child if you so choose) and the setting combined with the simple but cosy furnishings makes it a perfect romantic retreat for couples. What could be more magical than sitting under the stars with the person you love or snuggling up to the soundtrack of waves lapping on the shoreline? Yet it's also in the middle of the activity - the town of Combarro itself is beautiful, with old streets to wander and explore, bars and restaurants with terraces overlooking the water in both directions from the house, and mesmerising views across the estuary. This is a gorgeous little Galician hideaway.
Combarro is a lovely old fishing town which is so picturesque it has been declared a historic monument. It represents the three elements of traditional Galician architecture, the raised granaries, sea houses and crosses, and it is also famous for its good food. Full of bars and restaurants, this is the perfect place to savour some of Galicia’s finest culinary specialities. It is just a few minutes by car to the lovely towns of Sanxenxo and Pontevedra, not to mention the unspoilt Rias Bajas wine area, which thrives in the year round warmth. Along Calle San Roque you can get to A Rúa, and the old fishing port of Peirao can be reached on foot, either by passing through the town’s streets, or by crossing Padrón Beach when the tide is out. This is a lovely corner of Northern Spain.
Santiago de Compostela is the nearest International airport 45 minutes away, or it is 90 minutes to O Porto airport. From Pontevedra city you have to take the road to Sanxenxo (the coast road) and Combarro is 8km away.

The cottage was restored in 2010 and as such the accommodation is of a very high standard. There is a double bed, a separate WC, a sofa bed for an extra person, a bathroom, a television and a kitchen area with everything from a microwave, a blender and a coffee machine to utensils and spices. Linen and towels are provided, as are central heating and a selection of local maps so you can find your way around.
The cottage is directly on the waterfront and you can literally feed fish and birds from your window. Just a 5 minute walk away is the beach at the end of the village.
As is typical in seafaring villages, on 16th July Combarro celebrates the Virgin of El Carmen festivity. Tradition demands that boats be decorated with flowers and flags in order to take part in an emotive maritime procession, and the best-decorated boat is then allowed to carry the image of the Virgin. The Mussel Festival, on 15th August, is another important event in the town.
