Less than 200m from the perfect Atlantic beach in southern Spain is Casa Almadraba, a comfortable and stylish house in Andalucia surrounded by rubber plants, palms, and bougainvillea. Sit among tropical vegetation in one of the garden’s many corners and listen to the sounds of the surf and the nightingales.
The house is Andalus in style, with white-washed walls and terracotta roof tiles. The black and white prints and little personal touches throughout give the house a chic yet relaxed atmosphere and it manages to be both cool and fresh in the summer and cosy in the winter months. Situated just a short stroll from one of the finest stretches of sand on the Costa de la Luz, Casa Almadraba offers a combination of beach, comfort, and mature gardens that is very difficult to find on the Cádiz coast. The thing about Casa Almadraba that previous visitors have consistently loved is the diversity of outside sitting areas. There is a covered terrace just off the sitting room for al fresco dining, a lovely entrance courtyard with scented plants which is ideal for an evening drink, a part sun/part shade area around the pool, and a garden, where there is plenty of space for positioning a sunbed under a palm or umbrella pine.
Within the exclusive residential area of Roche, the house is located in a quiet cul-de-sac that terminates with steps leading down to a perfect Atlantic beach. It is an easy drive to the sherry houses of Jerez , to Cádiz (possibly Europe's oldest city), to Tarifa (and the boat to Tangier), to the wonders of Seville, and to intriguing pueblos blancos (white villages), like Vejer-de-la-Frontera. This is the Spain of fighting bulls and flamenco, ferias and finos, and fine simple food. Visit the Roman ruins at Baelo Claudio, the lighthouse at Cape Trafalgar, and the old tuna fishing port of Sancti Petri. The province of Cádiz is 30% National Park, and you will find green rolling hills more akin to Ireland or Wales but divided by giant cactus hedges. Other activities in the area include whale watching, bird watching, kite surfing, kayaking and ballooning.

Downstairs there is a pretty entrance patio full of scented plants, a large drawing room with separate dining area, a fully-fitted kitchen, a large double bedroom with en-suite bathroom and direct access to the pool, and a small bedroom with a shower room. The drawing room leads out onto a covered terrace with a built-in BBQ and the dining area leads out to the swimming pool. Upstairs there are three double bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The house is equipped with satellite TV, a DVD player, and a music system.
Outside there are various patios, terraces and gardens full of fragrant plants, as well as a stunning 10m x 5m chlorine-free pool that is fully enclosed and surrounded by a traditional brick terrace and bamboo pergola that filters dappled sunlight for the ultimate siesta. There is a tennis court 500m away, and a beach bar and children's playground 400m away. There is off-road parking available for one car.
With two bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs, the house is well suited for the elderly or less able. The enclosed pool area is great for families with small children, as all the gates/doors to the pool area are lockable. There is central heating and an open fire for the cooler months and the bedrooms all have traditional esparto blinds for the summer. It is an easy walk to the chemist, the newspaper shop, a shop selling hot bread, the mini market and the bar, and also to the playground, the tennis court and 5-aside soccer. Just 20 minute walk down the beach there are fine restaurants and a heavenly spa!
Conditions of Rental
We ask for a 25% deposit to confirm the booking and the remainder is payable 2 months before arrival. Changeover day is Friday.
