A stay in Balsa Barot gives you the chance for a complete switch off from daily life. Set in in rural Aragon in Spain, the house is offgrid yet comfortable, with exceptional views, and the feeling of freedom and tranquility you will get whilst sitting on the terrace sipping a glass of wine is second to none.
Located at the end of a road (and 6km from a tarmac road) on a plateau just below the top of a mountain, the house has been designed to be totally off grid and self sufficient. Solar panels provide the electricity. The water for the shower and toilet is collected in a 10,000 litre watertank throughout the year. The waste water is recycled to the olive and almond trees underground via the septic tank. And for those who would like a bit of home comfort, there is a satellite dish which allows the use of TV and a booster which supports 3G in the house.
With exceptional views over the valleys from all around, you might be hard pressed to go off site at all during your holiday. The temptation to lie on the porch with a good book, or sit round playing board games with the Aragon landscape stretching out beyond you, will be very strong! You can take wonderful walks directly from the house and there are lots of rivers in the vicinity for swimming in (as well as the Embalse de Caspe reservoir 2km away). There are also some lovely places to explore further afield and if you fancy a trip to the beach, the 100km journey through the mountains to the resorts of Salou and Cambrils are hardly a hardship.
