One-Off Feature

The Old Millhouse is a beautiful mill conversion on the banks of the River Esk, set in 3.5 acres of private gardens and just 8 miles from the city of Edinburgh in Scotland.  Sleeping 10 people in 5 luxurious ensuite bedrooms, it’s an excellent venue for a group of family or friends, or a corporate getaway.

General Info

Originally dating from 1703, this listed stone house lay empty for several years before the current owners rescued it in 2012 and began the huge task of restoring it. A historic building with contemporary and luxurious interiors, it’s in a secluded setting yet just 8 miles from the world famous city of Edinburgh.  It can be hired for full weeks or short breaks, and is also the perfect backdrop for film or photo shoots (and can be hired on a day basis during the week).

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

No stay at the Old Millhouse is complete without spending some time exploring the city of Edinburgh.  A UNESCO world heritage site, Edinburgh is one of Europe’s most beautiful cities with its Georgian architecture, historic buildings, museums and galleries, as well as its hip bars, bookshops, restaurants and cafes.  If you visit in August you can enjoy the Edinburgh Festival, Fringe Festival and Book Festival.  If there are golfers in your party, they will be in heaven, with 22 fine golf courses within easy reach including Muirfield, Musselburgh and Gullane.  Fishing on your doorstep, but we can also help to organise fishing on the River Tweed, as well as clay pigeon shooting or field sports.  There are also many walking and hiking trails in the vicinity to enjoy.

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
The Old Millhouse has been beautifully converted, combining original raw materials and antiques with contemporary furnishings and new design.  It has wifi throughout, a Sonos music system and power showers in all the bathrooms, and the owner has styled it in a classic British style with a hint of the Far East.  There is a magnificent sun room with glass on three sides with great views of the garden, fireplace, sofas and dining table for 10.  The kitchen is sleek and professional standard with breakfast bar and all the appliances you might need, and there is a cosy den, and a beautiful drawing room with working fireplace and window seats.  There are five en suite bedrooms (two doubles and three twins) - all luxuriously kitted out with soft towels, cotton bed linen and underfloor heating in the bathrooms.

Exterior Details
Outside there are 3.5 acres of grounds to explore.  The sweeping green lawns lend themselves to a game of croquet and there’s a lovely terrace with a breathtaking view.  Wander through woodland and along the banks of the South Esk, and enjoy the birdsong and flora along the riverbank.  The river is home to sea trout and the occasional salmon and is the perfect place for fishing beginners.  Fishing can be arranged for £25 per person and we can arrange for a ghilllie to spend a session teaching novices.

Conditions of Rental
Deposit of 25% required on booking and refundable security damage deposit of £1,000.00 required with final balance.  Minimum stay 3 nights.  Children are welcome and one pet.  You will be met and shown around the house on arrival and there is a house manager on call nearby.  Welcome hamper of food stocked in the fridge for your arrival.  No stag or hen parties, main booker must be over the age of 40 years.  Pre arrival shopping can be organised on request or treat yourself with some in house catering.  Please just enquire for details.  10% off for stays of 7 nights or more.
