A holiday in Cambodia always sounds very exotic and Cambodia South does not disappoint. Packed with everything from beaches to temples, there is much to see and do in this part of the country so it is well worth a visit in its own right.
Why not start with the river town of Kampot, near the popular seaside resort of Kep. Although the sea is just 5km away, Kampot manages to stay off the beaten tourist trail and is a picturesque place with colonial-style houses, abundant fruit trees (including mangosteen, pineapple and coconut), and lots of scenic small-town charm. Kampot would be an excellent place to begin your holiday in Cambodia and there is plenty to see around it, from pepper plantations and salt fields to caves and mountainous areas. The seaside resort of Kep is itself a good place to visit and no holiday in Cambodia would be complete without some time spent lazing on the beach or snorkelling in the clear waters. The nearby Rabbit Island is a great place for spotting unusual fish and corals and after a day in the water, the white sands beckon you for a snooze. One of the most fascinating places for a holiday in Cambodia is Tonle Bati, where you will find the ancient temples of Ta Prohm and Phnom Chi So. Both built in the 12th century, these temples are beautiful and historic in equal measure, not to mention that they are surrounded by stunning natural scenery. Make sure you also leave time for the Bokor National Park, complete with tropical forest and waterfalls. The Bokor Hill Station, a deserted retreat on a 1000m hill, is a very special piece of history. From lush landscapes to mesmerising monuments, a holiday in Cambodia has much to offer its visitors.
