One-Off Feature

A beautiful three bedroom cave house with private pool and hot tub set deep in the countryside of Andalucia, Spain, in the village of Benamaurel.  Cleverly designed with modern interiors and wonderful views of the Sierra de Cazorla.  The perfect retreat for a group of family or friends.

General Info

This is cave dwelling with a contemporary twist!  Renovated throughout there are some wonderful features in the cave house.  The walls are an indication of the history of the caves - in the master bedroom you can see where the water level used to be millions of years ago when the whole Altiplano was underwater, and in the living room you can see the shells, fossils and crystals among the layers of rock in the walls.  Cueva Helena is in the north of the Granada Province in the village of Benamaurel. It is in the Baza region of the Altiplano of Granada, 723 metres above sea level.  The area is reminiscent of Tolkein’s ‘Hobbit’ landscape, with many dwellings being caves, carved out of the rock face.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

Beautiful countryside to explore in the vicinity.  The surrounding area is alive with nature, being within very close proximity of three Natural Parks: the Sierra de Baza and the Sierra de Cazorla. Also close by is the Negratin lake and the Jabalcon hills, making this one of the most beautiful natural spots in Andalucia and indeed in Europe.  Castril is a 30 min drive from Cuevas Helena heading towards Sierra Cazorla Mountain range.  The surrounding countryside is perfect for walking and cycling. There is a village market every Friday, when the place comes alive with visitors from all around. Unlike the busier coastal areas, very few people here speak English, making the experience more truly Andalusian.  You could head into the Sierra Nevada (1.5 hours), or visit the city of Granada and the world famous Alhambra (1 hour).
