A charming shabby chic cottage in a quiet Italian village surrounded by countryside with views of the Amalfi Coast. Casa Rosa was once part of a large palazzo and is over 300 years old. Now it is a gloriously rustic hideaway for four on the edge of the Cilento National Park and within an easy drive of the beach.
The cottage is on a quiet lane in the traditional Italian village of Laureana Cilento and is an excellent base for exploring the local area. You are a 15 minute drive from the town of Agropoli with its marina and castle. The village has two cafes, grocery shops and a pizzeria, and there’s a good restaurant in the upper village (10 mins walk). The next door village of Rocca Cilento is 600m above sea level and has stunning views as far as the eye can see. Footpaths criss cross the olive groves all around this area and the walking in the Cilento National Park (on your doorstep) is second to none. If you are lucky, you may spot wild boar, falcons, owls, and in spring the wildflowers are spectacular. The Calore Gorge region is also on your doorstep.
The area is very unspoilt and really does have something for everyone. There are plenty of historic sites to visit, such as the three magnificent Greek temples at Paestum (20 mins). Pompeii and Herculaneum are 75 mins drive. Mount Vesuvius is 90 minutes drive. The Cilento has its own stunning coastline. There are sandy beaches at Baia di Trentova only 15 mins drive. The pretty coastal town of Santa Maria di Castellabate is 20 mins away (Blue Flag beach), and a protected marine park at Punta Licosa. You can go deepsea fishing, snorkelling, fishing, swimming, horseriding, beachcombing. There are many traditional hilltop villages in the vicinity. The heritage medieval town of Castellabate is 25 mins away which has a spa with pools, massage and therapies. The well known Thalasso Spa is at San Marco di Castellabate. The Cilento National Park is great for hiking, and there are lots of wonderful restaurants where you can try local fayre and drink local wines.
