With sweeping views from the roof terrace out over the Ionian Sea and sandy beaches, rolling olive groves and archaeological wonders on the doorstep, the cool, spacious apartments at Hotel Estia are the perfect base for exploring this almost-forgotten part of Greece.
In sunny Finikounda, tucked away on the southwestern tip of Greece, sits Hotel Estia, a charming hotel offering self-catering apartments designed with relaxation in mind. Tucked away on a side street, the hotel is a little oasis where the service is attentive and thoughtful and the surroundings are beautiful and unspoilt. Finikounda’s beauty is certainly equal to the islands but it is nowhere near as commercialised. It is still very much a working, farming, fishing village, and this makes for a truly tranquil setting. The hotel is named after the Greek goddess Hestia, one of the 12 gods of ruled Mount Olympus. She is known for her links with household and family and this makes her the perfect representative for our little slice of home away from home.
Hotel Estia is situated in the province of Messinia, just 45km from Kalamata (where the olives come from!). Off the beaten track, yet conveniently located for sightseeing, Finikounda is a lovely little place which offers long sandy beaches, picturesque hillsides and endless sunshine. You can easily spend your days relaxing by the sea, bathing in the warm waters, and eating fresh fish at seaside tavernas. And if you want to discover more about the local area, there are roads in every direction which lead to all sorts of fascinating places. Wander round Mycenaean tombs and catacombs, visit the waterfalls in Kazarma and the protected lagoons in Gialova or marvel at Navarino Castle in Pylos or Nestor’s Palace in Hora. Take boat cruises to nearby islands and hidden coves, get out on the waves for windsurfing and scuba diving, travel around the countryside on horseback, or play a round of golf on the course at Costa Navarino.
By air, there are daily flights to Kalamata International Airport (KLX) from Athens International Airport (ATH) and seasonally you can fly direct to Kalamata International Airport (KLX) from selected destinations. By sea there are ferries from Italy (Venice, Ancona, Bari or Brindisi) to the port of Patras. By road the journey is approximately 300km from Athens and 50km from Kalamata International Airport (KLX). If you would like more detailed driving directions, please contact the owners.
