Samawati is the Swahili word for 'A Heavenly Place'. This charming Lamu Arab style house overlooks the Indian Ocean at Msambweni, 56km south of Mombasa. It is a beautifully appointed double storey villa on one of the last unspoilt beaches on the Indian Ocean.
Samawati House is fully staffed with cook, house servant, gardener and night watchman. We have mains electricity and plenty of sweet water from our new well. Samawati House is let on a self-catering basis. Give your provisions to our cook and he will create delicious meals which feature fresh fish and seafood bought from fishermen on the beach.
Ideally situated not only for a beach holiday with safe swimming and goggling, but also for visits to the Shimba Hills National Park, Funzi Lagoon, Kisite Marine Park, Wasini Island and the famous Pemba Channel Fishing Club Club at Shimoni.

Interior Details
In this spacious house, all furniture and fittings are hand carved in the Swahili style. Doors and windows are also carved and left open at night so that you awake to a fabulous coastal sunrise. All four bedrooms are upstairs with fantastic views across the Indian Ocean. Three large bathrooms supply cooling showers with water from our own well. On the ground floor, ranged around a lush green courtyard are the dining room, breakfast area, sitting room. Across the patio is the Majlis, a large room containing wonderful Swahili carved sofas for lounging as well as a ping-pong table for hotly competitive games!
Exterior Details
Samawati is situated on an elevated property overlooking the Indian Ocean with 200m of beach front. Well kept lawns and flower beds are nurtured by Iddi, our gardener. The infinity edge pool (12m) is a magnet for children. Below the gentle cliff is a giant Baobab tree amongst shoreline vegetation. This area is not only a haven to a myriad of tropical birds but also home to our troop of resident Sykes monkeys who provide much entertainment in the afternoons. At the shallow end of the pool is a waterfall which cascades down a series of little cataracts bordered by indigenous plants - adding to the cool and refreshing ambience.
