Updown Cottage is a historic 16th century property which blends 400 years of history with contemporary design. Wooden beams and antiques retain the original character and yet you will find everything you could possibly need for a comfortable and pampering stay. White Company Egyptian cotton bed linen, bathrobes, Bramley all-natural toiletries, a basket of logs for the inglenook wood burner, a basket of groceries on arrival, 36 Nespresso capsules, 2 flat screen TVs, iPod connections, wifi & free national landline calls and a vast film library are all provided. Cosy in winter and cool in summer, this is the ultimate home-from-home.

The cottage sits opposite the 9th century walls of Shaftesbury Abbey with far-reaching views over the picturesque Blackmore Vale. Shaftesbury is in the north of Dorset and is perfectly located for exploring the area - the Cotswolds and Bath to the north, Dorset`s Jurassic coast to the south, Stonehenge to the east and Devon and Dartmoor to the west. There are cafes, delis, ancient pubs and restaurants just a moment's walk from the cottage.

A car is advised but trains from Waterloo to Gillingham take 2 hours. Gillingham is 4 miles away and you can take a taxi from here to the house. The cottage is also a short walk from the National Express coach stop.

The cottage has 4 bedrooms - 2 king size doubles and 2 singles - all of which have fantastic views over Gold Hill or the Blackmore Vale. One of the bedrooms is en-suite and there are 2 further bath/shower rooms. One of the 2 sitting rooms boasts a baby grand piano and there is also a dining room which seats 12 and a kitchen equipped with an Aga Masterchef.

Exterior Details
The terraced hillside garden is full of unusual shrubs and flowers which trail along the paths and steps. There are 2 sets of dining furniture with spectacular views and a giant Jenga to keep you entertained. Free parking is available a short distance down the hill, however loading and unloading immediately outside the cottage is permitted.
