The Mission - a truly unique holiday location. A classic 'tin tabernacle' (these buildings used to be sold 'flat pack' in Harrods and were shipped all over the world), converted by Vintage Vacations - "the off-beat accommodation specialists" according to The Observer newspaper. A quirky architect designed interior that retains the original atmosphere of the hall while providing spacious living and a wonderfully original base for your Holiday, celebration or group get-together.
The former 'Blackgang Mission Hall' built in 1895 and only ever used as a mission meeting hall until we bought it in 2007. It has an interesting history and a unique atmosphere. This classic 'tin tabernacle' is situated on Blythe Shute, just outside the village of Chale on the South coast of the island. Being in an 'area of outstanding natural beauty' the mission is steps away from stunning coastal scenery and 'in the loop' for some great coastal walking.
The Island always tops the list for UK sunshine. Being in an 'area of outstanding natural beauty' the mission is steps away from stunning coastal scenery and 'in the loop' for some great coastal walking ... or just a walk to the pub! The sea is 5 minutes walk away. Paragliding, Llama treks, Blackgang Chine, a decent pub and perfect walking country all within 10 minutes, as well as the other endless activities the Isle of Wight has to offer.

Internally much of the original interior remains untouched. We have created a mostly open-plan 'building-within-a-building' inside the main body of the hall. This gives 2 double mezzanine bedrooms floating in the roof-space and underneath a large open sitting area with masses of funky seating and a gorgeous, oversized woodburning stove. Also in the main hall is a luxuriously large bathroom with a sunken bath ...sunken into what was the baptismal font. At the back of the main hall is the kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is a restored beautiful 1950's English Rose model and kind of looks like it has always been there. Fridge-freezer, gas cooker, washing machine and dishwasher as well as all the usual kitchenalia. Leading from the kitchen is the 'Sunday School' wing - 2 further bedrooms (1 with bunk beds, one with 2 single or 1 kingsize bed)and a second bathroom with a lovely shower.
Externally the building has been re-clad and repainted using original materials and paint colours. There is a private car park for 2 cars. Outside is a private decked courtyard with lovely vintage outdoor furniture, a grass area and a further raised garden with a swing tree seat, summer house and BBQ area.
You may be interested to know that we have a similar property nearby that can be hired in tandem with the Mission to cater for larger groups.
