One-Off Feature

Situated in an isolated private cove, with jaw dropping views of the stunning South Devon coast and out to sea, The Beach Hut is a chance to really escape from it all. Fire up the BBQ, crack open a bottle of wine, and curl up with a loved one as you listen to the waves crashing on the rocks outside.

General Info

Hidden away on a private beach down a steep cliff path you will find The Beach Hut, a wonderful little bolthole with an outlook to die for. Charmingly simple and yet fitted with everything you could need to be comfy and cosy, this is a truly unique place in an unforgettable setting. And if you don’t want to worry about bringing the basics, we can provide a 'Devon Meal Hamper' with milk, muesli, eggs, bread, butter, marmalade, a simple evening meal for 2 (meat and vegetarian options) and a bottle of wine.

The Area Surrounding The Property / Accommodation

The cottage is situated on Carswell Farm, which stretches for nearly 3 miles along the coast. Designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this area boasts an exceptional array of plants and wildlife and if you’re lucky you’ll spot everything from a bat or a badger to a peregrine falcon. Unspoilt countryside and the coastal path are right on your doorstep, so lovely walks and quiet beaches are yours to explore. The nearest large sandy beach is at Mothecombe, about 2 miles away, or try Bigbury-on-Sea a few miles further. The area is very popular for sailing or you could visit the nearby villages of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers, charming villages with old fishermen's cottages and creekside pubs that serve good food. There is a local Co-Op, post office, butcher and pharmacy in Newton Ferrers or Holbeton, which has two good pubs, a shop and a post office, is also not far away.

Accommodation Details

Interior Details
The hut has a double bed that you climb up a ladder to get to, a large table with bench seats, a double gas hob and a sink. The small kitchen area has all the pots, pans, crockery and cutlery that you’ll need for your stay and there is a small wood burner to keep you warm on chilly nights. There is running water, but no electricity - so there are a few solar powered lights (with some windup lanterns as back up) and a camping cool box for your food.

Exterior Details
Outside there is a wood-fired hot tub for you to relax in after a day on the beach. There is also a compost toilet in the outside shed and a simple solar heated outside shower.

Further Details
Access to the Beach Hut is from Carswell Farm (where you can park your car) and then you have a 15 minute walk, including a steep path. There is no access for vehicles, so you will need to carry everything you want in a rucksack and wear sturdy footwear. Due to the remote location and difficult access, children under 18 and dogs are not allowed.

Conditions of Rental
Bed linen and hand towels are provided but please bring your own beach towels. We also supply tea-towels and environmentally friendly cleaning materials, as well as a supply of recycled paper toilet rolls, salt and pepper, cooking oil, Fair Trade organic tea, coffee, sugar and long life milk. Logs are provided in the outside store. The cost of the ‘Devon Meal Hamper’ is £45 – please contact the owners for more details.
