Set in acres of pristine indigenous forest, high on the foothills of the ancient Outeniqua mountain range, Teniqua Treetops is a unique tented treehouse resort which offers eco accommodation and an experience that may be quietly life-changing. Allow yourself to be relaxed, reinvigorated and rejuvenated.
Romantic, secluded and unspoilt, Teniqua Treetops is heaven for honeymooners, nature lovers and families looking for a truly exceptional holiday. The forests are home to a myriad of wild birds which bring the trees around you to life, and you will love the peace and quiet and the sounds of the forest, the river and, on occasion, the sea. The treehouses are fully equipped and serviced but the emphasis is very much on environmental preservation and the maximum use of natural products and materials. Swim in the cola-coloured water of the remote Karatara river, picnic on its beautiful banks and explore the deep forested gorge. Or chill out on the wooden deck of the swimming complex, perched high on the hill. Come and enjoy the inimitable experience of eating, sleeping and showering up in the canopy of the forest.
The resort is situated in a private nature reserve along the magical Garden Route, close to the magnificent sea shores of the Western Cape. Butterflies, insects, birds and lizards abound and there are lots of lovely walks in the immediate vicinity. From your doorstep you can take a river walk down into the Karatara gorge where you can bask on the rocks and chill out in the rock pools. And if you want to go to the seaside, the village of Sedgefield, 23km away, is on the sea and has fantastic, unspoiled sandy beaches and a safe lagoon for swimming and boating. If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush, go mountain biking, abseiling, quad biking and canoeing in and around Knysna, or you could go sailing or horse riding. And if you want to take things a bit more gently, visit Monkeyland in Plettenberg Bay, take a day trip to Botlierskop Private Game Reserve or visit the Cango Caves and the Cango Ostrich Farm.
If you’re coming by air there are numerous international flights into Cape Town. From Cape Town there is a choice of internal services flying to George and you will need to hire a car for the 50 minute scenic drive from the airport to the resort. By sea you can sail into Knysna and moor at one of the available pontoons and Intercape offers a coach service from Cape Town to Sedgefield (approximately 8 hours). If you’re driving, follow these directions: as you drive along the N2 highway, from George to Knysna, 5km after Sedgefield look out for the brown 'tourist' sign for Teniqua Treetops on your left, turn left and continue towards Barrington. We're 15.5km along the road. The entrance is clearly marked with a black reflective sign on the left hand side of the road.

The 8 treehouses are all individually crafted and have comfortable tented bedrooms, fully equipped kitchens and leafy luxury bathrooms. The honeymoon treehouses have large romantic baths and handcrafted antique furniture and the larger treehouses have 2 bedrooms, dining areas and loos and showers that look out into the forest. All houses have fully equipped kitchen facilities including cookers, microwaves, fridges and utensils. Linen is provided and is changed every 3 or 4 days.
The treehouses are built on hand-crafted platforms and set in quiet and secluded spaces of their own, with wonderful views of the surrounding forest and the gorge that leads down to the Karatara river. All houses have an open deck with a braai. On site there is a family braai area with table and seating, an indoor games room with exercise equipment and table tennis, and a jungle gym with a swing and a trampoline.
