This is a stunning renovation in the heart of Snowdonia National Park. Designed by leading green architects Greens & Simmonds, the converted harbourside chapel and cottage complex is an idyllic place for a group holiday or for a party – and is ideally located for walking, cycling, kayaking or just collapsing in front of the fire!

General Info

Its stunning renovation of period property in an area of Special Scientific Interest in the Snowdonia National Park makes Smugglers Cove one of the most exciting holiday lets on the Welsh coast. The property was entirely renovated in 2006, having been designed by "Eco Architects" Simmonds Mills with assistance from The Wales Tourist Board. It is constructed of stone, slate, larch, oak and glass with an attractive limewash finish, and an area of turf roof. As well as having very high insulation, to AECB silver standard, solar powered hot water and full gas fired central heating each of the two buildings (Chapel House and Quarry Cottage) has a wood burning stove.

Situated in the working Frongoch Boatyard on an estuary in the south of Snowdonia, Smugglers Cove is 3 miles from Aberdovey and close to Machynlleth and its renowned Centre For Alternative Technology. The area is renowned for its hills and vales for great walking, while there are historic towns and ancient woods, plus numerous opportunities for fishing, golf, riding and biking.

Interior Details
Chapel House sleeps 10 and is the spacious main building with 3 double bedrooms [one with a four poster bed], 1 twin bedroom, and 1 double bunk bedroom, three of which are on the ground floor. The Dining area can accommodate 16 around a single table and the lounge area has soft seating for the same number. The kitchen has an American style fridge and a large 5 ring gas range cooker with gas oven, plus dishwasher and also incoming call telephone. Quarry Cottage, separate but adjacent, sleeps 4 and is a two storey cottage with a double and a twin bedroom one (on the ground floor with direct exterior as well as interior access). It has its own smaller kitchen, lounge and dining area, seating 4 around the table and with soft seating for 4. There is a gas hob and oven. There is also a large shower room/toilet on the ground floor. Both properties are equipped with TV with Free to Air as wll as Video player/ DVD player/CD player/ radio, ironing board and Iron, and clothes drying horse, plus

Exterior Details
Apart from the direct access to the beach which has spectacular views to the Dovey Estuary, outside Chapel House there is a large recreation area and patio with outdoor seats and tables and barbeque. In addition, Quarry Cottage has a secluded Mediterranean style courtyard, seating and barbeque area at the rear of the house.

Further Details
Smugglers Cove Boatyard has the same owners and is also being renovated as a working boatyard with licensed moorings on the estuary, exclusive access to the estuary foreshore beach, its own slipway and hardstanding, and launch facilities for canoes, yachts and boats. The foreshore can accommodate most water based activities - guests at Smugglers Cove have access to the foreshore/beach and all water based facilities. Smugglers Cove is located in its own self contained, discreet area of the site, completely hidden from the boatyard with access to the boatyard through an exclusive short tunnel. Guests have their own exclusive parking on the Boatyard right alongside the short tunnel to the Smugglers Cove buildings. There is usually mobile phone reception on O2 and Orange Networks.

Conditions of Rental
All bed linen is provided with beds made up on arrival. Towels are not provided. Weekly Rentals start at 3pm Sat and end 10am the following Sat Where applicable, our 3 night weekend breaks start at 3pm Fri and finish at 10am Mon, or 4 night mid week breaks from 3pm Monday to 10am Friday. If you need more capacity we also have 3 holiday chalets only 2 miles away
