Nestled under the majestic Drakensburg Mountains, this exclusive family-managed 4 Star TGSA graded game reserve offers a choice of two separate camps. Choose from luxury suites or rustic ronadavels. If you're looking to discover the many attractions of the North Eastern Limpopo then Shikwari Game Reserve could be just the place. Owner run and managed, it is small enough to feel like a home-from-home, and yet it is kitted out with all the extra little luxuries that make your holiday special. Relax on the open veranda as you take in the view, drive out to the Kruger National Park or the Blyde River Canyon (the third largest canyon in the world) and then cool off in the tranquil plunge pool. This is an idyllic spot to while away a few days.
The lodge is around 20-30 minutes from Hoedspruit and is the first lodge you come to after the J G Strydom tunnel. The accommodation lodge commands wonderful views of the Skilderkrans Mountain which are home to the Manoutsa Vulture Colony (up to 660 pairs of the 4th largest vulture in the world) and we are also only an hour away from Magoebaskloof and the Canopy Tour over the Letaba River. Spend the day doing a boat trip on the Swadini Dam in the Blyde River Canyon, see rehabilitated wild animals at Moholoholo Animal Rehabilitation Centre, and enjoy lunch at one of the nearby restaurants or a picnic at Franklyn Park. Big five trips can be arranged, or you could just take a drive around our reserve with our FGASA Guide. And at the end of the day, watch the sunset turn the Skilderkraans Mountain into a rainbow of colour while having sundowners then dine under a dark velvet sky full of stars.
Big Five private trips to Kruger Park with a guide are available as well as Shikwari’s Plains Game drive or walk. Surrounded by a reserve with plains game, Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest, Kudu, Waterbuck, Nyala, Bushbuck, Impala and Duiker, come explore this amazing bushveld area. Booking is necessary for this especially during the holiday season. It is a short drive to the famous Kruger National Park, where the big five is seen. We can either pack you a breakfast or have our FGASA guide will escort you on an informative drive for the day. Blyde River Canyon is close by and one can go on the boat trip on the dam in the canyon to see the falls, crocodile and hippo. There are also the various walks and hikes in the area. The Panorama is the higher area of the Blyde River Canyon and consequently colder in winter.
